The 1933 total was 1234.447.000 (or 13.789 stores. The 49 percent gain between 1933 and 1936 contrasts with a 61 percent drop between 1929 and 1933. Payrolls In 1935 Increased 40 per eent over 1939, to t33.771.000, and the average number of employes In creased from 28,775 In 1933 to 34.090 or 22 percent. Pull-time payrolls alned 46 percent and part-time In creased three percent. Employe Data Later. The preliminary report, made pub lic by William L. Austin, census di rector, said it was Impossible to com pute the average annual earnings of retail employes because no separate tabulation of full-time employes was available, but employment and pay roll data In detail will oe Included In final state reports. They have consumed average of 1300 pounds of grain and 1800 pounds of hay each. Thoy were fed a mixture of corn, oats and barley. Carrots were used aa a sup plement to the grain during the lat ter, part of the feeding.
