Zobell. rf the staff of the Scrlppa Institu tion of Oceanography. ZobeU's report on hU findings is How being studied by the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine In n effort to ascertain Just what It Is In sea water that gives It Its antisep tic qualities. He has demonstrated that bacteria of a public health In terest cannot survive long In sea water. On the other hand, It has been found that marlno bacteria have a certain chance of survival. Among the various deductions that ! have been made as to the possible antiseptic qualities of sea water Is the presence of predacious protozoa, a possible lack of nutrients or the leth al effect of sunlight. One thing Zobell declares to be cer tain Is that there Is something In sea water besides Its salts which has a potent bactericidal effect. Experiments already made have de monstrated that raw sea water hu a greater health potency from its bac tericidal aspect than cither the heat ed or filtered water. Synthetic sea water also was tested, with the result that It showed less bactericidal potency than natural ocean water. Officials of the Institute are confi dent that It will be possible eventual ly to identify the specific antiseptic element of sea water and possibly ex tract It for commercial or sanitary purposes. lilue Mule llxprnslve CHXCO. Suggestions poured In from all parts of the state on how to cure the ailment. Summarized, they number 16: Hold one hand in hot water and the other In cold for five minutes. Sit In chair, putting feet atralght down and breathe deeply for five minutes. Lie flat on your back and have someone press Jugular vein for five minutes. Take 11 alps of water. Drink small portions of ginger ale while holding breath. Plaio glass of cold water on head while standing motionless for 12 min utes. Place toothpick under each big toe nail and hold feet in air as long as possible, then lie flat on stomach and breathe deeply for five minutes. Stir teaspoon of soda and one of vinegar Into hot water and drink while foaming. Eat two crusts of dry bread. Lie flat on back with head In brown paper bag and breathe deeply for six minutes. Place Ice bag on throat and breathe deeply for five minutes. Mix egg, half-teaspoon of nutmeg and glass of whisky, drink and relax. Lean forward In chair, head down, hands on feet and have someone hold flat Iron on back of head for six min utes. Drink two doses of blackberry cor dial 20 minutes apart. Weddlitga Observed DANBURY. (UP) The ulctd prob lem has become go Important In Japan, where love entanglements and the dealre to Join loved ones in death cause tho self-destruction of some 20,000 persons annually, that a spe cial clinic to curb the practice has been established. Tokyo police also are combating a revival of the practice of committing suicide by leaping from the city's taller buildings. There were three such cases within a recent week. Ryunosuke Kobayashl, known as a sulcido specialist," has been placed In charge of an office opened by the Japan Suicide Prevention society. He will seek to dissuade those bent on suicide from carrying out their plans. Kobayachl, la his. early 40s and with long experience In dealing In such problems, will Interview persons who have come to believe that death Is the only answer to their troubles. He will specialize In warding off shinju, or "love suicide." which has claimed many hundreds at Mlhara Yama on the island of Oshlma, as well as In less spectacular fashion. Kobalashl arranged to call a meet ing of educators and social workers, and to map out a series of lectures on the prevention of suicide. Last year the practice of Jumping Into the crowded Olnza from a tall building apparently was In disfavor after several yeara which saw an aver age of more than a score annually kill themselves In that manner. " There were 32 men and 14 women In 1932. and In J.933 and 1934 there were 25 and 16 such suicides, respectively. (Slim) Lynch and Drama Critic Philip Everhard Armstrong. The principal attack, upon the con stitutionality of the act under which the board operates, drew a sharp re tort from Robert Watts, associate general counsel for the board, from Washington. D.
