AUGUST 23. 1936 FRANGHOT TONE IN SUPPORTING CAST TIME ROMANCE With two of the screen's most pop ular leading men playing the leading male roles. Jean Harlow's newest pic ture "Suzy" reaches the Craterian theatre today where It starts a three ' day run. Franchot Tone and Cary Grant are the two lucky fellows who play, respectively, husbands one and two. The story Is about Suzy. a showgirl, ,who finds herself friendless In Lon Tdon In 1914. Tone helps her out of a difficulty and they marry after a whirlwind courtship. Foremen of a factory operated by a wily woman spy. Tone Is ordered killed when she be comes suspicious of his actions. When Tone Is shot, Suzy, believing htm dead, becomes fearful of being accused and flees to Paris. The war breaks out. Suzy Is wooed and won by Cary Grant, who later becomes France's most popular heroic war flyer. He becomes more and more at tentive to other women than to his own wife and Is caught In the web of espionage headed by the same woman who had shot Tone. , Later, Tone, Suzy and Grant meet. ' and from this meeting comes some of the most thrilling complications to the story. Included In the supporting cast are Benlta Hume as the spy: Lewis Stone as Grant's father; Inez Courtney, Gre ta Meyer and David Clyde. CALIFORNIA BRANDY CUTS OREGON PRICE PORTLAND, Aug. 23 (AP Cutting of apple brandy prices by the Speas company of California April 1 prac tically ended the sale of apple brandy made by the Hood River Distillers, Inc., E. R. Pooley, secretary-treasurer of the Hood River concern, testified today at a hearing before the stato liquor control commission. The Hood River firm has contend ed on several occasions before the commission that the Speas products should be banned from sale by the commission because of what It con tends Is unfair trade practice. RANCHER BLINDS BULL TO ESCAPE MAD ATTACK BAKER, Aug. 23. (AP) Charles Rhule of Baker Buffered severe lacer ations and bruises this morning when he was gored by a bull on his ranch near here. After Its first attack, the bull stood glowering over Rhule as the man lay on the ground without a veapon of any kind. Rhule stuck his fingers In the animal's eyes and gave It a severe kick. The bull back ed away long enough for Rhule to start rolling toward a fence. As the man went under the rail, the bull charged and one of its horns tore a long, deep gash In Rhule 's leg. Police Car Tongs Designed To Grab Fleeing Offenders PORTLAND. Ore, Aug. 22. (AP) Joseph W. Thompson, Portland, has devised a new way for traffic officers to catch fleeing automo biles. It Is an Invention the "auto cop," which resembles a huge set of sugar tongs. The tongs are bolted onto the front or the police car and can be clamped onto the rear bumper or fender of the fleeing car.
