TJ. B. Burt, candidate for atate treas urer and Immediate past atate presi dent of the Young Democratic club, declared that Franklin D. Roosevelt was the first president ever to give young persons an opportunity to par ticipate In conducting the affaire of the government. . "Today," Mr. Burt aald, "the Demo cratic party la the liberal party, work ing for the benefit of all the people. It la pledged to aid the entire nation. It Is plodged to bring to this country a real prosperity and prosperity Is re turning." Mr. Burt emphasized the recovery that lias been made, pointing to dally newspaper atorles tolling of business Improvement. He singled out the Oregonlan as an example of what he termed a Tory Republican dally which cannot escape publishing newa of economlo betterment. ' "The front page of the Oregonlan Is filled with news of business Im provement while the editorial page Is filled with Republican propaganda that the country under Roosevelt Is going to hell." Mr. Burt aald. "Evidently." he concluded, "the editor of the Oregonlan does not read the front page ot hla own newspaper." Mayor Willis Mnhoney, of Klamath Falls, candidate for United States senator, reiterated that he la for the principles of the Townaend plan but asserted that the best way to ac complish old-age assistance was through the federal security act. He declared that any Townaend advocate who cannot aupport President Rose velt should get out of the Townsend movement. Alfred P. Dobson, candidate for state attorney general, described what he called Irregularities of Attorney Orneral I. H. Van Winkle's office and aaaerted that If elected he would con duct the office efficiently and honorably. J 3 THEFT OF Elmer Abbott of Butte Falls, charged with petty larceny In the theft of four tier of wood, was sen tenced to serve 30 days in the county Jail and fined $29 upon a plea of guilty In Justice court yesterday. This morning Abbott paid the 125 fine and waa released upon condition that he also pay for the stolen wood. The complaint waa elgned by O. H. Cum mlnga of Butte Falls. Records of the county clerk's office show that Abbott produced a license to wed August 14, and Informed the court he was a bridegroom ot three daya, when arraigned. Robert J. Healy was held to await the action of the grand Jury tinder $900 bonds, Healy waived preliminary hearing. Healy uttered three forged checks for $7.30, and algned the namea of R. ' The bank came Into possession of the property upon foreclosure" of a mortgnge for approximately 76,000 and leased the farm property to Thorson Bros., who have been culti vating, the land this season, but per mitted the Gores - to occupy the house, attorneys for Gore said. The property has been In the Qore family since pioneer days, and Is re garded as one of the best farm pro perties in southern Oregon. The land has been Involved In civil litigation the past five years. Use Mall Tribune want i The county bridge rehabilitation program of the county court la now in full swing, according to County Engineer Paul B, Rynnlng, and U be ing rushed to have the work completed before winter, tn the neighborhood of 40 bridges, out of a, total of approximately 600 In the county, will be repaired and rebuilt. Bridge In the Prospect, McLeod, and Elk creek district are undergoing repairs this week. The bridges Include all alzr,. and are those most In need of repair. The spans for a number of yeara were not maintained, with the result all bad to be fixed at the same time. Bridges Hated for repair the re mainder of this season are located at Beaver Creek, Star Oulch, Thompson Creek and the Big Butte at Butte Falls. The JLako Creek bridge will be re-decked. The county engineer's office Is now concentrating on the bridge work. Road oiling has been completed for this year.
