In the year 1934 Interest In flying cadet training In this country ma terially diminished. Recording to 8gl W. M. Daws in charge of the air corps detachment at the Medlord air port. As a result, he states, there are not sufficient qualified candidates on the eligible list to Jill the classes at the air corps primary flying school at Randolph Field, Texas. The office of the commanding gen eral at the Ninth Corps Area head quarters at the Presidio In San Fran cisco has announced that vacancies are now open to young men between the ages of 20 and 30, inclusive. A mental examination Is not required if the applicant has completed two years of college work, but for one who has not completed such work but has the necessary education, pas sage of a mental test will be ac 'cepted as a substitute, Sgt. Daws stated. . In the last class which started on March 1, 1936, less than 60 flying cadets were entered whereas the quota was ISO. At no previous time In the history of army flying has opportunity been so great for those 1 interested in the type of work. Daws pointed out. A rigid physical exam ination Is invariably required, but for those who can meet the test Daws predicted a rosy future. If enough Interest is evinced, mov ing pictures showing the activities at Randolph Field will be brought to this city by Daws and probably shown at V. e Senior high school aud itorium. Jackson county have up to January 3, 1936, received from the Home Owners Loan corpora tion loans for refinancing operations amounting to S423.080, according to an announcement by Edgar Freed, atate director for the National Emerg ency council. This total represents 314, individual loans to home owners. The total amount of loans to home owners In Oregon loaned by the Home Owners Loan corporation for refinanc ing mortgages on homes was, up to January 2. 1936. $17,901,706.00, rep resenting 9123 Individual loans. The total amount of money loaned to home owners throughout the United States (including Porto Rico and Hawaii) up to January 3, 1936. was 2.940.029,050.00, representing S71789 loans.- TULSA, Okla., April 17. The fllma will be shown for stu dents at 9:40 next Friday morning in the senior high school auditorium. They will be presented again about 9:00 o'clock Friday night In Eagles' hall on West Main street after the regular meetings of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Its auxiliary, the public being Invited. A one-reel naval feature will be Included In the regular matinee shows at the Crater Ian and Boxy theaters Thursday aft ernoon, Mr. West said. Bookings for Thursday and Friday afternoons In public halls are being sought and anyone . interested In scheduling the shows may make ar rangements with Mr. West In the federal building. A navy truck with ft library of films, operators, projectors and other equipment will arrive here next Thursday from Portland. It will re main here until Saturday. In the library are about 30 films. done with sound effects, dialogue and music. The pictures are describ ed as educational, many of them showing scenes and depicting life .In foreign lands. OF Dr. R. P. Mortensen, manager of the Siskiyou Memorial Park, left Thursday evening for Los Angeles on the first leg of a world tour. Dr. Mortensen will board the S. S. Coo lldge at Los Angeles for the voyage to Honolulu, going next to Japan and China. He will then visit the Phii lipplnea where he will be guest of his daughter, whose nusband, Cap tain George Horsfall, Is In the army medical corps at Fort Stotsenburg. With a stop-over of several days in the principal cities, Dr. Morten Egypt, the Holy Lands, Naples, Rome, the Holy Lands, Naples, Rome, Florence, Geneva, Vienna, Berlin, Norway and Sweden, the British Isles, and France. He will sail for New York from France and If not tired of sea travel will return to the west coast by way of the Panama canal. Dr. Mortensen, who practiced med icine in Springfield. Ore., for 18 years before coming to Medford, will take post graduate work in Vienna, Berlin and Copenhagen and will reeriter practice upon his return. Letters giving the highlights of Dr. Mortensen's trip will be published from time to time In the Mall Tri bune. Dr. Mortensen will be accompan ied by Dr. Oeorge Simon, of Eugene. Jones of Jackson ville was elected moderator of the Presbytery of southwest Oregon at the twoday conference which ended late Wednesday afternoon. He suc ceeds E. L. Elliott, elder of the church at Klamath Falls. Other officers elected were the Rev. F. C. Travallle of Morrill, stated clerk; the Rev. J. C. Whttsett of Lakevlew, temporary clerk; and Rev. Ralph 8. Peterson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church here, re porting clerk. The Tuesday evening session was devoted mainly to an address by Mr. Elliott, the retiring moderator. Many ministers and elders were present from communities as dis tant as Lakevlew, Roseburg, Marsh field and Bend. The devotional mes-! sage Tuesday night was given by the Rev. R, M. Stevenson of Maltn. j Devotions led by the Rev. E. P., MacFarlane of the North Bend j ctvurch preceded the business session Wednesday morning. The vacancy at Myrtle Point would be filled for. the summer by Joseph Bowdoln, he reported. Pending adoption of the report.
