Tay lor, grandson of James Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission, will speak. He has spent 30 years In China. Hla parents gave about fifty years and his grandfather gave forty years of labor there. Rev. Taylor Is returning to his field in June. Union Services Good Friday At Christian Church Good Friday union service wtll be held In the First Christian church next Friday, April 10." The service will begin promptly at 12 o'clock noon and last until 3. A good pro gram will be presented and it Is hoped there will be a large attend ance for the entire three-hour period. Those who cannot stay through out the entire service may feel at liberty to come and go as they please. W. R. Balrd, minister of the Chris tian church, will have charge of the program. All members not con tacted as to food are requested to bring a hot dish or salad. Wednesday Study Club The first number of an exception ally good program was a talk on Ore gon Birds, given by Mrs. C. A. Meek er, chairman for the afternoon, at the meeting of the Wednesday Study club April 1. The cones in which certain birds can be found, their coloring, habits and food were spo ken of, and the usefulness of birds In helping to control insect life in garden, orchard, farm and forest, was stressed. A wonderful collection of bird pic tures, with which Mrs. Meeker illus trated her subject, were of particular Interest. Mrs. A. J. Hanby spoke of "Modern Poetry." Using Louis Unter myer's "Modern Poetry," and '"Dis covering Poetry," by Drew. Mrs. Hanby read verses of the present time, and those of an earlier day, showing the contrast between the two periods, and gave the comparisons drawn and criticisms expressed by the modem writers. The president, Mrs. B. G. Harding, presided at the brief business meet ing. The next meeting will be held on April 15th, with Mrs. Harold Grey, and Mrs. J. F. La-wrence, pre senting the program. American Legion Auxiliary Servlre Women Purvey The Past Presidents' Parley of the American Legion auxiliary (an or ganisation oi past department presi dents) has as an Integral part of Its program, the formation of a roster of women who served in the active military and naval forces of the U. 8. during the Great War. These women served aa army nurses, yeomanettea, navy nurses and marlnettes and re ceived honorable discharge. This as signment was given to the parley be cause the well-being of the women veterans of the World War Is Its spe cial objective. No such roster has been made since these women enlUt ed. and one la desired, not only for historical purposes, but to assist the parley in Its service program. The aid of each unit of the Amer ican Legion auxiliary Is asked In the making of this survey. In making thla survey the auxiliary Is cooperat ing with the Women's Overseas league In 'its survey, which Is being made at this time, by listing the ivn who served overseas, but who are not veterans.
