It waa decided to bold tha dance tha latter part of this month In Knlghta of Pythlns hall, the program committee to determine the exact date so aa to avoid conflict with other social events. It was voted to have a aeries of cocktail partita prior to the dance ,and to enliven the ball Itself with a number of gay aide features. Plana formally to celebrate Jeffer son day on April 13 were abandoned to avoid conflict with the Med ford Active club's sponsorship of the Dun can Sisters show at Oriental Gardens April 13 and 14. In cancelling Its program the club adopted a resolu tion wishing the Active club success in Us theatrical venture and offer ing to assist the Actlvlans In attain ing a record attendance. Joe Winkler, vice-president and statistician, resigned from the club, stating that he waa to leave Medford today for Sacramento, where he la to make his residence. Mr. Winkler was accorded a vote of appreciation for the work he has done for the club and his resignation waa accepted re luctantly and only after he declared he waa leaving the city permanently. By unanimous vote Rusell Morris waa elected to succeed Mr. Winkler aa vice-president. Miss Marjorie Kelly gave a simple and clarifying analysis of the social security act, explaining In under standable terms the provisions of Its 11 complicated tltlea. She atreased particularly the need of collateral legislation required to give full force to several tltlea of tne zeoerai act. "We owe It to ourselves to under stand this act so that we may vote Intelligently and assist our state leg islators In carrying out lta provi sions properly," Mlsa Kelly said In conclusion. "It la an act of vast so cial and economic significance and to understand lta tremendous scope fully we must give It thorough nd conscientious study." Dr. William F. Roney attended the meeting to take notes on Miss Kelly's analysis for use In discussing current vents at the Medford Public Speak ing club. April 3 (UP)-Because the fingerprints of Wil liam Schmidt, Walla Walla, so re sembled those of an escaped convict that he was transported across a state line back to prison before the error waa discovered, city police today were deluged with request from peace of ficers of several states asking for de tailed Information. The possibility of Identical finger prints with lta cannotatlons of false arrest, libel and damage to criminal evidence had apparently worried many law enforcement authorities. Schmidt waa arrested here recently on a minor change and fingerprinted. His prints were apparently those of Harley Felt, wanted for escape from Idaho State prison in Boise. Not until he was taken to Boise was the case of mistaken Identity revealed. California state prison officials. In writing Walla Walla police for com plete seta of prints and all informa tion, remarked that such a case If authentic might be used In the fu ture by lawyers to break down the generally accepted infallibility of fingerprint Identification.
