April 3. (VP) Creameries of the state of Oregon manufactured 39.836.203 pounds of butter during 1935, the annual dairy products re port issued by the agricultural de partment Issued today showed. Creameries listed totaled 104, while 13,998 patrons furnished the cream lor the manufacturing. Cheese manufactured In the state during the same period totaled 16, 887,568 pounds by the 60 cheese fac tories. Milk was furnished by 3,072 farmers. The condensed milk Industry In the state likewise showed favorable rec ords compared to previous years, the department .announced. A total of 36,189,444 pounds of condensed milk was manufactured by 12 plants. They also put out S, 125,649 pounds of pow dered milk and 47,710 pounds of pow dered buttermilk. Ice-cream manufactured by 64 fac tories was 1,429,199 gallons and cheese manufactured by 23 plants was 1. 430.846 pounds. BATTLE WITH LB. Myers aid today. In an Interview upon his arrival here to address the Oregon Tubercu losis association. Dr. Myers of the Uni versity of Minnesota, said that through the "Mantoux test, a system we have found 98 percent accurate, these beginnings can be discovered and immediate measures taken to Check the advance." The disease can be brought under control at that time, he said, although If detected later "hospitalization Is necessary and chances of recovery lessened." He reiterated that there Is no posi tive cure, although the disease can be so effectively controlled If caught aoon enough that treatment Is almost as protective as complete cure. (fl) Governor Martin requisitioned the state execu tive office in Arlrona today for re turn to Oregon of Harold Powell, wanted at Eugene on a charge of child stealing. He was being held at Yuma. The requisition papers set out that Powell left Eugene October 0, 1938, with Charlotte Brakel, a minor, dis appeared and was srrested later at Yuma. Robblns, chief of materials division at Wright Field, Dayton, Ohio, and assistant to the chief of the army air corps, paid a brief visit to Medford yesterday. With Maj. Thomas A. Chapman as his pilot, the general arrived in a Douglas attack ship at municipal air port from Hamilton Field. Cal., at 4:05 p. m. The plane wss refueled here and the two officers departed at 4:20. General Robbins was en route to Seattle, where he Is to make an In spection of army bombers being made j at the Boeing plant. It was expected j that he would call here again on his return flight to the east. Lieut. A. L. Smith arrived at mu nicipal airport at 1:35 p. m. In a Consolidated training ship he was taking from Crtssy Field, Cal., to Fort Lewis, Wash. He departed at S o'clock after his plane had been serviced. Lieut. B. W. Titus, who flew Lieu tenant Smith south a few days ago In a Douglas observation plane, land ed here on his return flight to Fort Lewis Wednesday afternoon.
