llmlnary Initiative petition filed here.

Doernbecher Furniture company', ord
ered the night shift of 450 men laid
off and said the remainder of the
1,000 employe will be released grad
ually. The announcement followed a ver
dict In municipal court holding the
Doernbecher company guilty of vio
lating Portland's amoke-denslty ordi
nance. Municipal Judge Donald E
Long did not levy a penalty.
Green aald: "We don't want to be
a nuisance to our neighbors, so we
will move to another state." He de
clared the furniture business was too
highly competitive to permit Install
ation of a new power plant, and re
marked "We have prided ourselves on
keeping men working during the de
pression, but we cannot continue In

Doernbecher plant was established
here in 1900 when v the company
moved from Chehalls, Wash.
Walter W. R. May, of the Portland
chamber of commerce, said special

will be held today and commented,
"We did everything we could. It Is

under way since March 1. A new store
has been built, additional cabins have
been constructed and the whole lay
out haa been modernized, all facili
ties having been electrified wherever
possible.
Formerly the McLeod auto camp,
the property was acquired last fall by
A. D. Tate, retired head of a Los An
geles printing company. It Is Mr.
Tate'a aim to convert the place Into
a model, year-round fishing and
hunting resort, with all necessary
supplies and equipment available for
the fisherman and the hunter.
The resort la 81 miles from Med
ford on Crater lake highway. It has
a frontage of three-quartera of a
mile on the highway, and a mile on
the river, the grounda comprising 20

The United States, Oreat Britain and
Prance today accepted the final draft
of a new naval treaty limiting the
alee of battleships and the building
of cruisers for six yeara. t
The document will be algned next
Wednesday, when a conference of
four months ends with the original
big five powers of the 1033 Washing
ton agreement reduced to three.
The draft treaty aa finally approved
would restrict battleships to a top
size of 36.000 tons, ratam 1Q,000 tons

shall be constructed during tha six
year period.
