E FLYER TO STAGE THRILLERS OVER CITY TODAY A thrilling, heart-palpitating aerial ahow over the Medford municipal air port today waa promised laat night by Norman Drrolng, production man ager of Columbuta Pictures corpora tion, which baa been taking air acnea here since last Tuesday for Its latest thrill-drama, "Devil's Squad ron." The entire Columbia staff, which oama to Medford to make the air scenes, will be on hand today to film trie final plcuires before returning to Hollywood. Mr. Denting aald. The group came here In search of clouds which are necessary for background. All during the week hundreds of spectators visited the airport daily to witness the dare-devil exploits In the air. The picture, which oo-atars Richard Vix and Karen Morley, Is a drama of the life of test pilots. "Tomorrow," Mr. Doming said last sight, "we are going to put on a real ahow. The weather bureau said we'd have perfect clouds and we're going to take advantage of them. We ex pect to complete our work here, and we're going to open up and shoot the works. Mr. Darning said there Is no objec tion to spectators being at the air port. He declared they would be wel come. To keep spectatora out of dan ger rones, a special patrolman will be on duty today, he said. 'We have had grand success In Medford, Mr. Demlng stated. "If we hadn't been able to find clouds here j don't know where we would have gone, for there weren't any anywhere else." The Columbia staff which will be at the airport today Includes Frank Clarke, rated as one of the most spectacular stunt pilot In the coun try; Charles Marshall, master aerial cameraman; Red Tolmle, assistant cameraman; Ralph Miller, studio technician: Frank Tomtek. pilot of the camera ship; Cloyd Clevlnger and Paul Lansing, pilots, the latter being a former Medford resident; and Jack Rawlins, film editor. Sargent post of the United Spanish American War Veteran, both the York and Scot tish Rite Masonic order and Hlllah Temple Shrine of which he 1 a past potentate. He 1 the third Republican to file for nomination for district attorney, the others being Victor A. Tengwald and P. Kramer Deuel. George Cod ding incumbent, I the only Demo crat to file thus far. FOR CRATER ROADS A new rotary snow plow for service at Crater Lake national park la sched uled to arrive here by freight Tues day. It will be driven from here to the park. The new machine will augment the one now In use at the mountain re sort and It 1 expected by David H. Canfleld. park superintendent, that wltb the two plows in operation no further difficulty will be experienced In keeping roads and an adequate parking apace open at all time. The present plow broke down a couple of month ago and sqow piled up so fast while It was out of com mission that attempt to keep the rim road and a parking area open had to be abandoned. The new machine Is the latent mod el of snow plow made, being equipped with a drift-digging attachment. It is the largest plow ever to be used In the park, Mr. Canfleld related. E THIS AFTERNOON In preparation for the presenta tion of the beautiful lenten cantata, Dubois' "Seven Laat Words of Christ" the first combined rehearsal will be held today at 4 p.m.. In the audito rium of the Methodist church. In vitation have been extended to choirs of the city and a chorus of 00 Is expected to be present at this first of the four Sunday afternoon rehearsals leading up to the week of the presentation. Solo parts are to be sung by Mrs. C. H. Pa nice, Ralph Waldron and W. P. Brooks. Piano accompaniment will be one of Medford'a best known pianists, Mr. Sebastian Apollo. Ar rangements are being completed for an organist. A grand piano Is to be brought In for the occasion through the courtesy of Palmer's Music and Electric store. The performance 1 to be under direction of Don Hucka bee. A cordial Invitation 1 extended all singer of southern Oregon who desire to participate In the cantata to be present at the rehearsal. It will be necessary for all who intend to ting to be at the four Sunday afternoon rehearsal without fall. This Is the first time in the his tory of southern Oregon that "The Seven Last Words" has been present ed by a local organisation, and It promises to be an affair of unusual Interest. Special scenic effects are being arranged to add to the offec tiveneea of the performance. Mrs. Bernetfce (Naylor) Griffin, pioneer resident and one of the old est native daughter of Jackson county now living, passed away at her residence on South Ivy street Saturday afernoon at the age of nearly 80. , Mrs. Griffin was born on Wagner creek southwest of Talent near the old Naylor sawmill, the first sawmill In Jaokson, county, and erected by her father, Granville Naylor, and has spent practically all her life here. Beside her husband, John B. 'Grif fin, also a pioneer and native son of thl county, she leave three chil dren, Everett Griffin of Trinidad. Calif.; Lawrence of-Bly, Ore., and Abbey Bailey of Merrill, also seven grand children and one sister, Alta Naylor, of thia city. Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Christian church.
