This wsrm sun has hatched the of local baseball and the Medford Rogue ere planning on working out for the first time Sunday at 10:30 a. m at the Senior high school field on South Oakdale, providing, of course, that It Is not raining by then. Prospects for a fast Infield went up notch this week when Oeorge "Shar key" Sherrltt, manager of the Gen eral service station at Main and Ivy, announced he would try out for short or second. Sherrltt played for various teams In the bush league at Port land and In 1920 traveled to Hawaii. FIJI. Pago Pago and Australia with the Multnomah Athletic club for a series of games. On that learn was Bobby Grayson, later to become one of the conM'a outstanding football players at Stan-, ford. Grayson was 15 years old then. I and already held the high school rec ord for the 100-yard dash and for the j 10-yard low hurdles, and according to i one Australian newspaper "Is an out standing ball player on his higli school team." The team ployed 13 games In Australia and won all of them, Impressing the Australians with their fine sportsmanship. In the write-ups of the games Sherrltt Is Inrarlably mentioned as one of the outstanding players of the team. While playing for the Balln Fi nance company In Portland, Sharkey held down the short position, while Verne Shangle, Medford photographer now. was scurrying about second for the same team. For a month In 1030, Sherrltt tried out with the Oakland club of the Coast league, and at various times during his career managed teams In Portland. I like Medford fine, and I'm going to play with the local ball club If I can make the tram." Sher rltt modestly said yesterdsy. The Rogues are going to try some thing new this year. They know that there are several old-time baseball players In and around Medford, and to these old-timers they are present ing season passes to all home garnet. Owney Patton and Court Hall will each get one, as will John Wilkinson Frank Isaacs, and several others. Every effort to revive the game In this city will be made. At the present time a conservative estimate places Medford at the bot tom of the list for team support. Grants Pass and Klamath Falls both out draw this city in baseball Inter set. and even Yreka turns out a much larger crowd for Sunday games. In cidentally, the offer from Weed, Yreka and Dunamulr that they sign with Medford and Klamath Falls for an lnter-tat aeries, Is being seri ously considered.
