Two whales and two boats have taken part In such a game here before the excited gaze of crowds on the beach. The whales ars unexpected visitors. They first were seen from shore. The news quickly spread among the in habitants, who streamed down to the water's edge for a glimpse. Two boats, each manned by three men, then were put out to try to catch the whales by driving them to the beach. But the whales were voo clever. Again and again they eluded their pursuers diving and appearing In unexpected places. Spectators on the beach were aroused to excitement when they saw the monsters actually passed beneath the boats to outmaneuver the hunt ers. Though nearly successful several times, the men were beaten by approaching dusk and the running of their Intended prey. LEFTISTS GAIN IN TOKYO, Peb. SI (IP) A gain of 14 seats In parliament for candidates of proletarian parties (the leftists of Japan) featured the returns tonight from the national election. The proletarians, who held three seats In the last parliament, had elec ted 17 to the next on the basis of returns ud until 6 p. m.. the votes counted are mainly frfom city districts. The union study group of the Rogue River and Wlmer faculty met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Steward as guests of Miss Marjorie Olts and Miss Prances Bcatty, Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hart man, Mrs. Powell, Mis Shilling, Miss Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bar neburg, Mr. Brloker, Miss Danford, and the hosteaaes.
