Lumber company staff Is shown at the wheel. - Two carloads of new Dodge trucks are on order and one of th-m Is ex pected to arrive the middle of the week. Part of this shipment Is al ready Bold, according to Mr. Taylor. New Dodge trucks were recently purchased by the Hubbard-Wray college ae groups has been grow ing steadily worne over a period ol years, while a recent survey showed , that 77 out of every 100 high school students will be killed or Injured In i trn.fflo, If present trends continue. In meeting this problem, the A.A.A. la In a unique position be cause of Its many years of experi ence In teaching essentials of safety to grade achool children. The na tional motoring body and Its af filiated motor clubs distribute month-1 ly 100,000 safety pouters and 128.000 1 aafety lessons, and sponsor, equip and maintain more than 350,000 schoolboy patrolmeti, who give con stant protection to more than 8,000, 000 children In 3000 towns and cities. "That this program has been re markably successful can be seen by a glance at the record. Over a period of yenra when all traffic fatalities were Increasing by 86 per cent. deaths of children from 10 to 14 yeara In age Increased only S per cent while the number of children from 6 to 9 killed tn traffto ahowed an amanlng decrease of about 3& per cent. "These figures prove beyond doubt that proper education methods prop erly applied can and do exert a tre mendous force In improving the safety record. But while accident to grade school children were de creasing, the death rate of high school ago children, almost univer sally without benefit of snfrty edu cation, waa Increasing by no less 1 thsn 130 per cent. "The pressing need for action as shown by .these records Is obvious. and It was to meet thla need that the A.A.A.'a course In 'Sportsmanlike Driving wsa evolved and Its use i as an Integral part of high school 1 Instruction offered. The entire field of motor vehicle operation la covered in the illus trated text pamphlets making up this course. In addition to teaching mechanical featurea of the car, 'Sportsmanlike Driving' discusses traffic regulations and Imprpsnes the need for safety both from the indi vidual viewpoint and from the stand point of broad social responsibility. Among the subject Included are: How the Automobile Runs,' 'How to Drive an Automobile,' 'Keeping the Automobile In Safe Condition,' 'Physical, Mental and Emotional Characteristics of the Driver,' .'Acci dent Factors, 'Driver Responsibility and Examination and Test for Ope rator's License.' "With complete Instruction In all the subjects Included In the course It Is Inevitable that the student will become a far more competent and efftclent driver than he possibly could through the haphazard and sketchy type of Instruction so preva lent today. "Widespread use of this course will, I am convinced, not only Im prove almojtt Immediately the worst phase of our present day traffic record, but through constantly turn ing out better and more efficient motorists, make the highway of the future a safer place on which to drive." 1 LaFayette Making Phenomenal Gains One of the phenomenal gains of the 1935 year has been that regis tered by LaFayette, the Nash entry In the low price field, according to Walter W. Abbey, local Nath-LaPy- i ctte dealer. I Mr. Abbey says, "For the first eight ' months of the year, LaFayette went i ahead of Its 1034 record by more than I 125 per cent. This Is on the basis of i actual registrations. : Mr. Abbey reports the recent sales of LaFayettes to Mr. and Mrs. Johnle i King, deluxe aedan; and Myrtle E. Newland, deluxe Victoria. Raymond M. ' Dalton purchased a Willys 77 sedan from Walter W. Ab bey Ino. last week. WASHINGTON, Feb. 15. (UP) The Borah for President organiza tion tonight opened the campaign to win Ohio's 52 Republican national convention delegates from Frank Knox of Chicago. Carl O. Bach ma nn, chairman of the national Borah for President committee, called a state-wide con ference of Ohio friends of the sen ator to meet In Akron Sunday. Both Borah and Knox are to con test the Ohio presidential primary which takes place May 12. Borah has filed his entry and Knox head quarter haa applied for the neces sary papers. It appears to political observers that the contest for dele gates other than favorite ion move ments will be largely between the senator and the Chicago publisher Other possible Republican nominees have been reluctant so far to go outside their own states for dele gate strength. Bachmann's announcement reveal ed developments In Borah 'a Ohio plans since he announced that he would enter the primary there. The senator believed at first he would seek support of only Ohio's eight delegate s-at-large. Subsequently he made public demand that the regu lar Ohio Republican organisation abandon plana for a favorite son of unlnstructed delegation. He urged that her eligible Republicans enter the primary. Knox and Borah are In the Illinois prlmnry contest.
