sytema of Germany, Italy end Russia

the Hotel Medford. Each lady will

A bridge tournament between the
ladles and gentlemen haa been ar
ranged for tho evening. If won by
the ladles, the amount realized from
tho tournament will go to their pet
charities, with tho situation reversed
if tho men are conquerors.

The couple were married In Grace
Protestant Episcopal church In the
presence of 75 relative and friends.
The bride was given In marriage by
her father, and had aa her only
attendant Miss Margaret Delano.
Fred Spuhn waa best man. A re
ception and dinner at the Waldorf
Astoria followed the ceremony.
The couple sailed for London on
the Europa, Mr. Hurd being London
manager for the Matson Steamship
lines.
The bride is a graduate of Welles
ley college and Mr. Hurd of Stanford.

Tea Among Large
Events for Holiday
Plans for holiday featlvitlen ar
being announced In ever-In creasing
number, running from large, formal
affairs to friendly at-homes and
small dinner parties.
Cards are being sent to 40 guests
for the tea Sunday afternoon, De
cember 20, which has been arranged
by the alumni of Gnmma Phi Beta.
Place is the Town Club. Plans are
being directed by Mrs. Ft. B. Ham
mond. Mrs. Dolph Phlppa. the Misses

Thursday Study Club
Hears New Program
At Weekly Meeting
An especially Interesting program,
dealing with the theaters, was pre
sented at tills week's meeting of the
Thursday morning Study club. First
half of the program was a review, by
Mrs. C. C. Furnas, of John Mason
Brown's "Upstage," telling of the to
dny's drama and playwrights, actorB
and actresses, directors, scenic artists,
and the critic, who plays such an
important part In the success of a
play.
Second half of the topic was the
rending of "Accent on Youth," by
Mrs. Myron Root, which was classed
with the best ten pltiys of last era
son. A new note appeared on this pro
gram In tho form of a magazine cal
endar under the supervision of Mrs.
Uurdette Dot1ii who gave a short but
Informative talk on Japan and Man
churia. Also speaking wcro Mrs.
Royal Bebh, on World News In the
Realm of Music; Mrs. L. L. Sanders,
telling of Interesting facts in the
llffe of Huey Long; and Mrs. A. H.
Clement, who gave facts on the sub
ject of strike-breaking.
These short talks, based on recent
magazine articles of renl worth, are
to be a regular part of the program
nt the first meeting of each month
and are eagerly awaited hy the mem
bers, as they concern vitally problems
of the day,

bined glee clubs of the Southern Ore
gon Normal school present their an
nual Christmas vesper prof-ram in the
Normal auditorium at four o'clock.
Mlsa Louie Woodruff, music instruc
tor at tho school, has directed the
young singers, who will present a var
ied program Including carols from
foreign lands by men's voltes, wom
en's voices and combination of the
two.
Carols have been selected from
those of English, French, Spanish,
Russian, Slovenian, Roumanian, Hun
garian, Moravian and Polish origin. A
candlelight processional will be a fea
ture of tho afternoon.
