SOCIAL SECURITY
NEW YORK, Dec. H.AP) Out

The labor secretary held such "co

The seven-point program for "mod

"(3) Hours short enough to pre

a social consciousness that leads In

profits, dividends and community
welfare.
"(o) Expansion of Industry In the
direction of human needs and stable

TRENTON. N. J.. Dec. 14 TJP
The chances of Bruno Richard
Hauptmann to live more than
month rested on three slim possi
bilities tonight.
He will be electrocuted m stats
penitentiary the week of January
xa ror tne murder of Charles Au
gustus Lindbergh. Jr., unless:
1. The New Jersey court of par
dons commutes his sentence.
2. The courts permit him a new
trial on grounds that startling new
evidence could be produced.
3. Oovernor Harold Hoffman grants
him a reprieve.
The first two were held highly
unlikely. Should the governor Inter
cede he could prolong the former
German machine-gunners' life three
months at the most.
Although the date for his electro
cution was set late yesterday by
Justice Thomas W. Trenchard. be
fore whom Hauptmann was tried
tne prisoner did not learn of it un
til today.
He exhibited no surprise, anJ
once again, he predicted "some
thing" would save him. Col. Mark
Klmberllng. chief keeper said.
Ktmberllng sent an assistant "out
back" to advise Hauptmann.
"Thank you." the convicted slay
r said simply.
"Hauptmann more or less expect
ed to hear the news soon," Ktm
berllng said. "He told the officer
that he still expected something
would happen and that he could
notice no change In HauDtmann'i
o'ltlook."
Shortly after the news was broken
to him, Hauptmann was visited by
tne Rev.. John Mattleson. local
Lutheran clergyman, who has be
come hla spiritual adviser.
