election In the City of Medford, Ore
gon, on the 31st day of January, 1936,
submitting to the legal voters of said
city a proposed act of municipal leg
lelatlon aa required by ajio. set forth
In Chapter 122 of the General Laws
of Oregon, 1935, authorizing the Com
mon Council by ordinance to adopt
civil service for the full time paid
fire fighters of the City of Medford
and make all necessary provisions for
the operation of said system.
WHEREAS. Chapter 122 of the Gen
eral Laws of Oregon. 1935. authorizes
and requires the Oouncll of the City
. Med-.d . Dr0ra.l to
.adopt a civil service system under
which all full time paid fire fighters

the affirmative vote of a majority of
tho electors voting thereon that the
Council shall forthwith prepare an
ordinance adopting civil service for
Its full time paid fire fighters and
make all necessary provisions therein
for the operation of said system. In
cluding the formation of a Commis
sion of three members to be appoint
ed by the Common Council to act
as a civil service commission. wh!oi
members shall determine bv lot that
one of their number shall' serve for
two years, one for four years and one
lor six years and thereafter vacancies
shall be filled by appointment of the

Charter of the city of Medford and
the state law for regular elections.
Section 2. The same places are
hereby designated as polling places
within said City of Medford at which
such election will he held as those
places selected and designated as the
precinct polling places for the State
ana county elections.

for eaoh precinct as those selected for
the special state election held on said

Talent visitor Tuesday.
The city Jail of Talent, another old
landmark, ha been torn down and
taken away by City Marshal Maxwell.
Dirk Verloop. who ha been a lesi
dent of Talent for the past five years,
passed away at his home on Gibson
avenue Saturday. He had been in
poor health for the paat year. Mr.
Verloop was past 80 years of age at
the time of his death.
Bingham Shuster, a resident of
Talent for the post two years, died
at his home on Beeson lane last week.
Mr. Shuster was 74 years of age. His
wife and rour sons survive to mourn
his passing.
Everett Boon, while driving on the
highway with a team, was a'.ruck by
a Sandard OH truck. HI team ran
away and Mr. Boon suffered cut and
bruise and Internal injuries.
Wiley Hill was taken to the Com
munity hospital In Ashland Monday,
suffering with an abscess of the
brain. HI many friends hope for a
speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Alcock of
Idaho have moved to Talent. At pres
ent they are staying at the home of
Mrs. Alcock' mother. Mrs. Bam Wll
burn. Mr. Alcock. before her mar
riage, was Miss Ellen Burnett.
The high school will give a carni
val at the school. Friday evening. De
cember 13. There will bo several
plays, booths of different kinds, hot
dogs and corfeo. and everything that
goes with a carnival.
The city council met at the city
hall December 10, and awarded the
contract for the Talent sewer to the
Medford Concrete Construction Co.,
it being the lowest bidder. Work will
be started at once.
The Camp Fire Girls met at the
school Tuesday evonlng. Plana for
the winter were discussed and Christ
ina gift were worked on. Two new
members were voted on and accented.
Oalifornla-Orcgon Rabbit Breeders
will meet at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. H. Lowe. Sunday afternoon at
9 o'clock. All members are urged
