FDR'S BACKING OP NORRIS FLAYED AS RADICAL ACTION WASHINGTON, Nov. 16. (AP) Col. Frank Knox, Chicago publisher and Republican presidential possibil ity, said here today that President Roosevelt's endorsement of Senator Norrls (R., Neb.) wns consistent with the course under which he, had "abandoned hla own party program and taken up the radicals' program." Knox was here for the week end visiting his wife, who has established a winter residence here. He refused to discuss politics generally, or his own plans for 1936. "It Is not at all surprising that the president should endorse Senator Norrls. Just as he has Senator La Fol lette of Wisconsin." Knox said, "be cause on the face of things It Is ob vious he thinks much as they do. "But It leaves the Democrats In Wisconsin and Ncnraska as orphans in the storm. They are feelinft it very keenly. I know about Wiscon sin because it is a neighboring state. I suspect the Democrats In Nebraska feel much tho same way. "The president's program Is no longer Democratic but radtcal. The president has abandoned his own party program and taken up the radi cals' program. This Is consistent with his own program, but not the pro gram on which he was elected." (API Senator Frank Franclscovlch of Asto ria told the Astoria chamber of com merce ihat "poll teal jockeying" by the senate failed, and as a result Ore gon's new capitol will be on the old site Instead of a larger site. He said the senate at the special legislative session, wanted two blocks to the north added to the present site, so to cut down the approprta tlon from i3.500,000 to 3.50O.0OO to use as a "lever" to gain a. site eo& cesslon from the house. "Unfortunately the Marlon county delegation tn the house, counted on to oppose the low appropriation, be came alarmed as the session's end ap proarhed and. fearing there might b no capitol bill at all, passed the sen ate measure," Senator Franclscovlch said. "As a result, taxpayers will probably later have to ralso more money to complete furnishing and equipping of the capitol building and pay dollar for dollar, whereas if the $3,900,000 appropriation had passed, 45 cents on the dollar on the added added million would have come through a federal grant.'' We are pleased to report that this goal was reached in exactly ten months instead of a full year. One million cars and trucks is an impressive total But figures by themselves mean noth ing. It is what they represent that counts. Selling a V-8 at a low price has brought a new kind of automobile within reach of the people. Producing it has provided steady work for hundreds of thousands of men in the Ford plants, in associated industries and on the farm. These million Ford V- 8 cars and trucks have helped to make things better all around. In the first ten months of 1935 the Ford Motor Company paid out, in the United States alone, $140,119,326.00 in wages and $523,111,389.00 for materials. FORD MOTOR COMPANY BUILDER OP FORD.
