CLUBS CONFER ON
Plans were discussed for week-end
carnivals of winter sports at Crater
Lake national park at a meeting held
In Port Klamath Friday night by rep
resentatives of the national park
service, the Rogue Snowmen. Klam
ath Falls Ski club and the Crater
Lake Ski club of Fort Klamata.
The club representatives expressed
approval of the Idea of holding a
winter sports carnival at the moun
tain report each week end under the
unified sponsorship of the three or
ganizations. It was agreed that every
effort should be made for a success
ful winter season at the park this
year, for results will determine
whether or not the lake resort will
be kept open throughout the winter
in future years.
The meeting was attended by David
H. Canfletd, superintendent of Crater
lake national park, and J. Carlisle
Crouch, chief ranger, the former of
fering the co-operation of the park
service In making the winter sports
events a success. Rangers and ;
tendants will be at the take to assist
the public and rangers will help nkt
devotees In cross-country runs.
It was pointed out that Crater Lake
national park Is being kept open this
winter aa a test of popularity. It Is
one of the three national parks being
offered this year as a resort for out
door sports, the others being Rainier
and Yosemlte. If the patronage falls
to material In. It was said, the resort
would hereafter be closed In wlntee.
Roads to the lake are being kept
open and a parking space has been
provided so that motrlsts may enjoy
the scenic resort throughout the win
ter.
Those representing the Rogue Snow,
men, a Med ford rlub, were Glen
Fabrtck, president, and Kenneth G
Denman. Plans were made for an
other meeting In the near future
when more definite arrangements for
the winter sports would be made. The
Rogue Snowmen Is planning to hold
lta first meeting of the season within
the next fortnight.
