war.
The Webfoots etarted their two first
half touchdown drlvee when they re
covered Oregon Stat fumbles.
Coach Lon Stiner surprised the 10,-
000 fans by starting an entire second
string of "shock troops." He left the
reserves In the game until Oregon
scored once and threatened again
The Beaver regulars then couldn't
pull out of the hole, and themselves
yielded another toucnaown.
Rlordan's punte, which averaged 43.2
I yards, put Oregon State In the hole
time and again, and one of his long
boots paved the ?.ay to the second
touchdown. He thumped the ball
ever Safety Joe Oray'a head and Ore
ton recovered on the Oregon State
Id-yard line. A speedy drive netted
a touchdown.
Even that doesn't tell all the story
ef Rlordan's punting. Once he sent a
BP-yard punt out of bounds on Ore
gon State's one-foot line and a few
mlnutea later punted out on the
Beaver one-yard line.
Thrills Provided
The Beavers, particularly Joy Oray,
gave the spectators plenty of thrills
with their wideopen plays and later
all. However, several long gains were
called back when Oregon State's In
tended laterals were thrown forward.
The Beavers threatened In the sec
ond period when they drove to the
Oregon 33, and again In the third
quarter when they drove to the Web-
foot 36. Both times the Oregon pass
defense functioned beautifully and the
threats ended.
Oregon had the ball on tlie Oregon
State two-yard line, second down and
goal to go when the game ended.

With a small but fast team the In

Coach Bower man of Medford, after
watching his charges skim out a win
over Klamath Palls by a precarious

against pasRCa, has been drilling his
chargea hard all week on thla phase

an Impregnable wall for the Indian

would trip the Tiger march on the
etate championship, so the Medford

If the Indian offense and defense
provea strong, the entire first string
of the Hed and Black will remain In
the fray, but If the Chemawa for
ward wall crumples, aa haa most for
ward walls faced this year, tha razzle
dazzle second string will get a chance
to get Into action, building up
reserve strength for the coming Jousts

Taking no chances on the possi

tho part of the Redskins. Bowerman
haa drilled his first, second and third
teams on how to perform against any
kind of an unbalanced or short

Stanford lost the ball on downs on
Southern California's one-yard line In
the middle of the third quarter and

game progressed to its last five min

their first pass and this finally led
to the field goal by the sharpshooter.
Moacrlp. The rifle shot was slmed
from the 15-yard line.
Southern California, playing its best
football of an indifferent season, was
alert throughout and smart quick

back on their heels.
1 Stanford's running game was ef

down punch wrs needed. The Indians
negotiated 16 first downs and gained
220 yards rushing before they could
score.
Southern California, too. had Its
chances to score but could not de

moved to the three-yard line In the
second quarter.
With the defense functioning so
well neither team could show a con

on Its last legs, the game seemed
about to end In a scoreless tie when
Stanford suddenly leaped Into the
threatening position with a coniple te

this time Bobby Grayson passed to

Orayson then went bark to pass
again but could not find a receiver,
so he ran with the ball and, catching
the Trojans napping, galloped to the
nine-yard line, where he was chased
out of bounds. He then moved on
to the six, but the next play lost a
yard and Moscrlp was Cri'.:ed on to
get the three points quite enough
to win the game.
.Stanford had missed a great chance
