Nov. &&) California's Golden Bears, undefeated and untied In seven games, will go "on the spot" for the second straight , week tomorrow as they attempt to , hold their precarious leadership in the bristling race for western foot ball honors. Victorious. 14 to 3, over the pre viously unbeaten U. C. L. A. Bruins last Saturday, the Bears go Into their , home field at Berkeley's memorial ' stadium tomorrow to face the Hus- kles of the University of Washington. I considered by many experts the west's ! strongest eleven despite their 6-0 de- ! feat by Stanford earlier In the sea- son. Share Favoritism Oplnlonon the day's major contest j Is evenly 'divided, with California a ; local favorite at 10 to 8 and the Hus- j kles liked by about the same odds In ; the northwest. , j Against an Iron-clad Bear defense which has ytelded nine points to op ponents In seven games the Huskier will throw probably the highest gear ed offense In northwest football his tory. About 60.000 fans, the bay region's biggest crowd of the season, is ex pected to turn out for the contest. , Advance ticket sales have been heavy, j Coach Howard Jones Trojans', pay- j lng the piper with interest for their years of dancing atop the football world, seemed headed for another unceremonious dumping at the hands of Stanford. With Bobby Orayson ready to go at fullback, few critics doubt the Indians pack too many guns for the faltering Trojans. Renew Old Rlvoiry They meet tn Los Angeles memor ial coliseum tomorrow In th renewal of a game which two years ago mark ed the downfall of the Jonesmen when Stanford scored a 13-7 upset victory. At Eugene the intra-state rivalry between University of Oregon and Oregon State will be revived In an other conference clash. Rested after their 33-6 thumping at the hands of U. C L. A. the Oregon players are favored. The final conference issue will be decided at Moscow, Idaho, where Washington State college, twice-beaten, and the even more battered Uni versity of Idaho battle. Washington State with Montana at Great Falls, Mont., and Loyola vs. San Diego State at San Diego. The Med ford high sctiool Is not tak ing any unnecessary chances of an upset at the hands of the Chemawa Indians Monday, Armistice day, it, was shown last night by Coach Bower man when he ran his charges through a fast scrimmage session and then worked on pass drill for nearly an hour. In order to correct a definite weak ness In the Tiger attack. Bowerman has asked Rus Achison, Junior high mentor, whose season It now over, to work on the punting of several of the team members. Eldon Grow, 15-year-old sophomore end. his shown re markable promise in this department and last night was splrallng some long kicks. His punting Is still er ratic enough but, with steady Im provement already shown, he should develop Into a fine toe artist. Sev eral other kickers are developing, also. Achl&on himself Is a great kicker, and. better than that, he has the knack of teaching others how It is done. The few nights that he has been working have produced satisfy ing results, and by the time of the Chemawa game he will undoubtedly have several good kickers to present. With the loss of two ends, Kuna man and Praley, Bowerman was using Grow and "Stretch" Ettlnger at wing posts last night. Ettlnger, the tallest and heaviest man on the squad, has had considerable trouble In snatch ing passes, but his work had Im proved greatly last night and he will be at top form for the Indian game. Ardo Stocks, who played a great game at Klamath FH substitute center, turned in such a good per formance that Bowerman moved him to the starting position. "Red" Root, who started the season as an auxil iary center, has done fine work, and will be one of those embattled in the game. He may start, if the coach see fit to sprinkle inexperienced men with the veterans. Fights Last Night (By the Associated Press.) WHITE PLAINS, N. Y. Al Singe. 133'i.
