She maintained her own home on north Pioneer until Just two years ago, when she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. G. H. Yeo, but spend lng months at a time with her other daughter, Mrs. J. A. Harvey of Santa Ana, Cal. Mrs. Oregory suffered but one day's illness before her pawing, November 5th. Ann Brown Oregory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Brown, was bom in Moniteau county, Missouri, Janu ary IS. 1847, and remained there un til the date of her marriage to J. W. O. Oregory, September 22, 1897. In 1872, they oame to Yolo county, California. After three years spent in California, Mr. and Mrs. Oregory came to Jackson county, Oregon, liv ing for nine years on ranoh at Table Rock. Since 1884 the home has been made In Ashland, where Mr. Gregory died May 0, 1011. Three children were born to them, J. Milton, who died February 8, 1900; Olive (Mrs. O. H. Yeo), Ashland, and Edith (Mrs. J. A. Harvey) of Santa Ana, Oal. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church today at 3:30 p. fil ths Rev. Melville Wire, pastor, giv lng the funeral address. Interment was made In the family plot In the Ashland cemetery, J. P. Dodge fe Sons In charge of funeral arrangements. Due to the fact that the trapping season for xur-oearing animals will open on November IS, which Is two weeks earlier than usual, trappers will be able to take advantage ot the Ideal conditions brought about as a result of the present early spell of cold weather. The season will ex tend to February 15. and Included In the list of furbearers which can be taken only during this period are mink, muskrat, otter, fisher, marten, ringtail cat and raccoon. A special trapping license will be required for the taking of these ani mals as a result of action taken by the last regular legislative session. Such a license may be procured by forwarding a fee of 3 to the office of the game commission in Portland, and It Is not necessary to fill out formal application blank. SMITH AT Tl Funeral services were held at the First Christian church this afternoon for Sidney Sumpter Smith, promi nent resident of Medford since 1910 who died at his home Tuesday morn ing after a long illness. - The church services were conducted by the Rev. D. E. Millard, former pas tor and an old friend of Mr. Smith. Representatives of numerous civic, fraternal and trade organizations at tended the funeral, the Klwanls club, of which Mr. Smith was a member, attending in a body. Slslclyou Memor ial park was the place of Interment. The Rev. Mr. Millard sang one of his own. compositions, "The Song of My Heart." M. E. and Letha Olsen sang a duet, "When the Mists Have Rolled Away," and the church male quartet sang "Rock of Ages," all these songs having been favorites of Mr. Smith. The quartet was composed of John Klrkpatrlck, Chester Wendt, M. E. Olsen and the Rev. Mr. Mil lard. At a meeting this noon of the di rectors of the Klwanls club resolu tions of condolence were adopted. Similar resolutions were adopted by the city council and at a special meeting last night of the Jackson County Democratic Central commit tee of which Ralph Stephenson Is chairman. The resolution adopted by the city council follows: "Whereas, S. Sumpter Smith has been called to his final rest by the Divine Providence, and "WhereaB, during his lifetime S. Sumpter Smith has been an outstand ing and upright citizen of the City of Medford, a man who has consistently, honestly and unselfishly labored for all that has been for the welfare of his community, his neighbors and his friends, and "Whereas,, for the foregoing reasons ' and by reason of the further fact that during his lifetime S. Sumpter Smith believed In and maintained high Ideals and principles and at all times guided his own conduct and In sisted upon all activities In which he I engaged being guided 'by such prln-I clples and Ideals, 8. Sumpter Smith In their bereavement. Sumpter Smith, be loved and respected citizen of Med ford, has answered the last call and has gone to the reward so well earned by a life of honor and usefulness to his fellow man, the Jackson County Democrat Central Committee, in spe cial session this 6th day of. Novem ber, 193S, unanimously adopts the following resolution, to-wlt: "Resolved, that this committee ex press its sorrow over the loss sus tained by this community In the death of an able, kindly and chari table resident, who, during a long participation In business, social and political activity, has won and re tained the respect and admiration of all who have known him. "As an opponent in politics he was fair, courteous and honest; his first consideration was the welfare of all the people and his country: his part isanship was of the kind that makes better citizens and better government. "To the bereaved members of his family, and to his associates we ex tend our sincere sympathy."
