Garner, chair man; Owen D. Young, chairman of the operatlona committee: Jesse H. Jones, treasurer; James O. Blaine, as alstant treasurer, and Captain Eddie Rlckenbscker, dlreotor. ' The alms of the memorial commis sion are described as follows, In a prepared statement Issued by Hawks: "When Will Rogers died, he loft millions of friends who had become lullmalea through the stage, radio, motion pictures, newspapers and mag azines. They mourned the msn and his philosophy his kindness to man kind. "Thousands of these friends act ively proposed memorials. No less than a score of organizations were formed for the purpose. These were merged and the Will Rogers' Memorial commission waa formed a group of Rogers' nationally prominent and re anoslble friends, headed by Vice President John N. Garner. "Now with all local and sectional efforta directed Into one whole-hearted, national plan, millions of Will Rogers' friends may participate In a worthy, recognized and responsible contribution to the memory of Will Rogers. Large Sum Foreseen "After Rogers' millions of friends have had an opportutty to make their contribution to his memory, the sum will be totalled beside the number of contributors, which It Is believed will run Into millions of friendships. Living Memorials "Naturally, the Judgment must be indicated by the total of the sub scriptions. But one thing Is certain, the commission will sponsor no cold shaft of marble for this warm, friendly man.
