Prepare Car for
' Winter Use Says . .
y Western Manager
"Now Is the time to equip your
car for winter," declares C. H. Prlt
ehatt, Medford manager or the West
ern Auto Supply company. Score"
of specially reduced prices afford
car owners many extra savings dur
ing the firm's current fall festival
of values, he declares. One of the
outstanding values of -the event are
the remarkable, new -improved West
ern Giant and Wizard batteries,
which this sale introduces to car
owners at special Introductory prices
"For years these batteries have
enrncd wide-spread popularity as
money saving values because of their
lower cost, higher quality and long
time guarantee, but today Western
Auto battery bargains are unprece
dented." Prltchett avers.
"Western Giant power Js now 68
per cent more than new S. A. B.
specifications. To accomplish this.
12 more plates have been added to
every battery, plates are "Air Pro
cessed" for greater efficiency , and
"machine pressed" to afford absolute-
uniformity of action. These are oniy
some of the contributing factors to
the increased quality."
That Port Orford cedar has long
been recognized as the finest wood,
for separators is pointed out by
Prltchett. "This special type of wood
Is used In Western Giant separators
and receives special treatment to
permit free passage of acid, and more
ready power output. Reinforced with
rubber, these separators are now
distinctly aupertor to those used In
ordinary batteries,' he says.
"Patented covers with molded lead
bushings which prevent acid seep
age and terminal corrosion la an
other prominent advantage, while a
tout hard rubber case and tun
thickness cell connecting straps are
other features of the iew Western
Giant battery that Justify our three.
year guarantee. This startling new
long-time guarantee Is backed by
service at every one of our more
than 170 stores In the west.
"The new Wizard battery, too. is
an outstanding value. It has 31 per
cent more power than the new
S. A. B. specifications and carries a
full two-year guarantee. More plates
also 'air processed' and 'machine

The Rev. W. R. Balrd can boast to
day of having brought down a large
buck but the venison turned out to
be extremely costly.
The pastor of the First Christian
church used neither rifle, knife nor
arrow. In fact, he bagged the deer
with hi automubile.
The minister was returning to Med
ford after conducting a religious ser
vice at the Diamond Lake CCC camp.
Half way-bet wren Diamond lake and
Union creek a big buck sprang out
into the road in the path of Mr.
Balrd's car. Dazzled by the head
li slits, the buck danced back and
forth. The car crashed into the ani
mal and death was almost instanta
neous. y
The automobile was badly da ma cod
and It was necessary to have it towed
about 70 miles to Medford. A head
light was smashed, one fender was
bend and the othpr rumpled and the
grille and radiator were broken.
The Rev. Mr. Balrd Is now at Fre
mont, Neb., where he Is conducting
evangelistic services. He is expected
back the latter part of November.
! His friends say that he considers
the deer much too expensive.

Isn't it discouraging after trying your best to make a cup of good
coffee to find that something is missing in its flavor? .The situation is
even more distressing when you have been trying one brand of coffee
after another in your efforts to get a cup of coffee that tastes right.
Nothing can take the place of flavor in coffee.
It is virtually impossible to make a really good cup of coffee if there
is variation in the blend, roast,
