well, rector of St. John's Cathedral at
Denver, Colo., had been named bishop
of the Episcopal diocese of Oregon to
day as a result of final ballotttng held
by the house of delegates here last
night.
Dean Dag ell was elected on the
34th ballot, after having been well up
toward the top throughout the voting
which lasted all day.
Hl consecration awaits formal ap
proval of the presiding bishop, all
the bishops In the United states and
members of the standing committees
of each diocese.
Dean Dagwell was chosen to suc
ceed the late Walter Taylor Sumner,
bishop of Oregon for more than 30
years, who died as a result of a heart
attack Sept. 4 of this year.
The Denver rector received 33'j
votes of the 43 cast on the 34th bal
lot. The Right Rev. William P. Rem
ington of Pendleton. Ore., was second:
the Rev. Perry Smith of Roseburg,
Ore., third, and Dean Horace Ramsey
of Portland fourth.
Dean Dagwell has been dean and
director of the Denver pastorate since
!V34.. Prior to that time he was In
Charge of the church at Pueblo. Colo.
He was born In Susquehanna, Pa., In
1890. and was graduated from the
Scabury Divinity School of Faribault.
Minn., in 1916. The honorary degree
of doctor of divinity was conferred
upon him by that Institution in 1932.
The house of delegates In session
yesterday paid tribute - to the late
Blshlp Sumner by passing a resolu
tion expressing profound sorrow at
bis death.
Dean Dagwell is -unmarried. He Is
a, member of the national council of
the Episcopal-church and a trustee
of tho diocese of Colorado.

Now she Is Commander Castle
Holmes, chief of the Kent, Ore., post
of the American Legion and leader of
one of the smallest legion units nu
merically and largest territorially In
the United States.
And she won her office through a
promise to tell the boys at least one
good story a month.
Such was the word brought here
by Fred A. LleuaUcn of Bend, com
mander of the local post, who was
called to Maupin to assist In the In
stallation of officers for the new
Kent post!
The Kent post, with but 17 mem
bers (and Miss Holmes says there
will be more), comprises several hun
dred square miles of territory in the
wheat belt or north-central Oregon,
and Includes the communities of
Kent. Maupin, Dufur and Antelope.
"Miss Holmes Is commander of the
Kent post because every member In
sisted she run for office," Lleuallen
said. "And she will make a darn good
commander, too,"

To waste game wantonly.

mal or game bird.
To shoot from public highway or
railroad right of way.
To hunt on lands without permis
sion of the owner.
To lie In wait for deer at or near
licks.
To sell or offer for sale, barter or
exchange any of the' game animals
or game birds, or parts thereof, of
the state of Oregon.
To take up any game animal or
game bird for the purpose of holding
same In captivity.
To rob any bird's nest, except such
birds as are not protected by law.
To hunt or shoot from a power- j
boat, sink or sneakboat, or sink I
box.
To trap, net or ensnare game anl-
mnJs and game birds, except fur-'
bearing animals.
To poison game or non-game birds, j
To resist game wardens or other !

To hunt within the corporate
limits of any city or town, public
park or cemetery, or on any campus

hunting any of the game animals or

The Community Chest campaign
headquarters at the Jackson County
Chamber of Commerce building will
remain open until next Wednesday,
October 16th for the convenience
of lata contributors to the Commu
nity Chest fund, according to an
announcement today by M. N. Hogan.
