Discharged from Hospital Floyd
Stout, COC enrollee stationed at
Camp Wlmer, was diacharged from
Sacred Heart hospital today, fully re
covered from a recent operation for
the removal of his appendix.
To Have Vacation Lieut. Lin
Shields, who la stationed at the South
Umpqua Falle CCC camp, has been
granted a leave of absence of 14 days,
effective October 7. He was in charge
of the construction of Camp Silver
Lake.

George P. Kabele left last evening
for Longvlow. Wash., where he will
attend the Joint meeting of the two
conferences of the Pacific Synod of
the United Lutheran church of Amer
ica. Tuesday and Wednesday. He
will return to Medford Thursday.
Going to Portland Sergeant Frank
Linley, custodian of the Medford Arm
ory, has received orders to report for
Instruction In Portland. October 8.
All Armory custodians will receive in
struction at that time In the proper
care of government property, the pur
pose being to make the work uniform.

a short stay, after which he will come

Shangle has received a letter of ap
preciation for pictures taken at Cra
ter Lake, from a Japanese student.

with the recent delegation of stu
dents from his country. The student
stated that the lake was one of the
most beautiful sights that he has

Krosrhels Visit Mr. and Mrs. S. A.
Kroschel, formerly of Medford but
now making their home In San Diego,
were brief Medford visitors today,
while enroute to Portland for a few
days. While here, Mr. Krosohel stated
that during the fair at San Diego, an
Oregon day was held. On that day,
26 boxes of Hood River apples were
on display, as was a sack of almonds
from Salem, but no Medford pears
were on hand. Mr. Kroschel thinks
something should be done about this.
Even though It Is now too late for
this fair, he stated that attention
should be given to forthcoming op
portunities of like nature.

steam schooner W. R. Chamberlain
was reported at the harbor office here
today to have grounded lightly on a
sandbank on Puget Island In the Co
lumbia river. The coast guard cutter

assist in pulling the vessel free.
