Davis, now of Salem and formerly of Gold Hill and Central Point, who have been visiting friends In the valley for the past week, left this morning for Gold Hill, where they will make further visits with friends. While in Medford. they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Oault and Elvy Laugh. - Present Diplomas Major George R. Owens, Medford district CCC. som mander. and Capt. William C. Ryan, welfare officer, presented diplomas to day to 50 graduates of the CCC school for cooks and bakers at Camp Wlmer. The graduates, completing a six weeks course, now return to their respective camps. Another term of the school will start next week. To Naval School BUI Lyman Jack son, who has been at home on a ten day leave of absence from the naval training school at San Diego, where he has Just completed preliminary training, left last night for that city to enter the school of pharmacy at the naval hospital, Purchases Home Fred B. All this, of course, will be concrete for Mr. Pendergast, which will further his friendly rela tions with Washington. Note. The law here require con tracts to be awarded to the "lowest and best" bidder. This la no obstacle to Mr. Pendergast. He and his friends are not always the "lowest" bidders, but are Invariably "the beat. The street car motor man will tell you "the president is not as stout as he waa" here. The business man will tell you that all business is po litically fearful, but business la much better and the immediate outlook is bright. The strongest anti-Roosevelt people, however, privately rate him no worse than even today, .but are hopeful that the trend away from him will continue. The plaint of the business man here Is the same aa throughout the mlddl sweat. In Chicago, Milwaukee or Kansas City, he will lean across hi desk and tell you: "I am not against reform.
