Lara Beds, where one of the blood iest Indians wars In American history was waged, now atanda the head quarters company 1989, Camp Lava Beds. The camp Itself Is built upon ground that waa the scene of one of the many battles of the Modoo war of 1873-73. Within few miles of the camp Is Captain Jack's stronghold, where the Indian band of 71 held out for five months against superior white foroas and where over 100 white sol diers were killed, with no Ices. of life to the Indians. There, too, la Can by'a cross, erected by his soldiers in memory of General S. R. S. Csnby, killed by the Indian on that spot, April 11, 1873. Many members of the company have found arrowheads made of ob sidian (volcanic glass) along the one time lake shore and In the camp It self. The most Interesting attraction of the Lava Beds country I the numer ous cave formation throughout the entire region.
