Harlow, Gable and Beery Scoring Hit In Craterian Film Between dangerous thrills and dan- ; gerous romance, there is something i doing every minute in "China Seas." j the new all-star, drama which opened I yesterday at the Craterian theater. The stars are Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and Wallace Beery. It is a picture in which interest never slackens, and action never lags. It takes Its place among the finest entertainment vehicles of the new screen season. Part of the story Is played In the howling fury of a tropical hurricane on the last frontier, the wild south eastern coast of Asia. It Is one of the most spectacular sequences ever film ed. "China Seas" deals with the odd love story of the hard-bitten young skipper of a coastwise liner, played by Qable, and "China Doll," a lovely wanderer In the Astatic ports, played by Miss Harlow. Involved with them Is a mysterious trader, Wallace Beery, who is suspected of being the master mind of a piracy plot. Action takes place entirely on the wheezy old liner Kin Lung as It plows down the China sea between Hong kong and Slngopore. Under the polite veneer of the pawengers runs a tre mendous dramatic under-current of fierce loves, bitter hates and sinister intrigues, to which the typhoon and the sudden catastrophic pirate raid are fitting background. . Meriting especial mention for out standing acting honors are Lewis 1 Stone, Rosalind Russell, Dudley Dig- ges, C. Aubrey Smith. Robert Bench ley. William Henry, Edward Brophy, Lillian Bond, Soo Yong and others of the distinguished cast. CgQHagaagZ,- J fpositively Ends IMA 1 2 llSl I TODAY and SATURDAY! J J S9 !jgi into Action! The picture opens with a whirl wind romance between Marcla (Joan Crawford) and Sherry (Robert Mont gomery), and maintains a rspld-mov-ing tempo until the final farteout. Marcla la a light-hearted but level headed society girl whose love for Sherry, an Incorrigible heart-breaker. Is such that she submits to wedding-bells well within the first reel.
