SCOUT REPORTER
OF LONG JOURNEY
By Irwin Poly
Home again are the scouts of Crater
Lake Council. They arrived in Med
ford, Thursday at 10 a. m.
Wednesday was spent In San Fran
cisco. The trip acrow the bay by
ferry was Interesting, particularly as
the ferry crosses directly under the
new Oakland - San Francisco bay
bridge, now under construction. This
bridge Is eight miles in length, la the
largest In the world, and will be open
for traffic October, 1936.
At the ferry boat terminal we were
met by the head man of the Standard
OH comuanv of California, who nut
' im on CI rev line buses for a sightsee
ing tour. The first thing visited was
the approach to the new bay bridge.
The next item of Interest was the
Golden Gate bridge. Nobody Is al
lowed to go down to where the actual
work Is going on, but we were prlv
lledged characters and went down
and watched some of the construction
work. Tills bridge when completed
will have the longest single span in
the world.
At Sutra's baths the scouts had the
privilege of going In swimming in the
largest Indoor swimming pool.
Lunch was eaten by the boys at the
Chalet aa gxiesta of the Standard Oil

the Crater Lake council to San Fran
cisco. The tour next took the scouts thru
Golden Gate park where the scouts
were given permission to see Stlne
hart acquarium.
In the afternoon the boys had free
time In which to buy souvenirs or to
see more of San Francisco.
The group In which I went visited
Chinatown. This section of the bay
city la built much like the town
back In China.
At 6 p. m. we took a ferry back
across the bay to Oakland. At 7 p. m.
we left on the train for Medford, Ore.
Thus ends an account of one of the
greatest trips which any boy or group
of boys from this part of the state
will ever get again.
