To the Editor: Your editorial In regard to Huey Long was just about right. The only fault that I saw with It was that you didn't make it quite strong enough. It certainly must have been, won derful for a lot of already wornout congressmen to be compelled to sit and listen for 6',i hours to an out law like Long paw the ground like a low-bred Mexican bull that has been driven out of the herd, and shout and wave his big fat arms and any nothing for hours, What kind of people ' have they got in Louis iana, who will tolerate a blackguard like Long and allow him to snort and froth at the mouth: to go so far as to call the president of the United "States a liar and curse everyone who opposes him? To compare such an outlaw to de cent men like McNary, Borah, Nor rls and LaFollene is an Insult to every citizen In the United States of America. What would we think or our own Senator McNary If he should act like a crazy bull? Go to It. Huey! It won't take you long to land where you belong in a co"ntrv Kaiser Wllhelm and o11 Mussolini are headed for. You will be welcomed with open arms by His Majesty, Old Satan, and he will pat you on the back and say: "Well done, my good and faithful servant, you sure raised hll In the United Slates of America!" A. W. Limbeck of Central Point, and J. R Tun gate of Butte Falls, who enlisted In the navy at Portland May 14, 1935, are now at home enjoying iu days' leave, having completed their three months' preliminary training at the training station, San Diego. Calif. Upon reporting back to the training station they will be assigned to one of the ships of the fleet, where their navy life aboard ship will begin. According to Chief Petty Officer E. M. West, on recruiting duty here, one of the boys intends to remain in the navy and the recruiter points out the following Inducements In such a career: "The navy sets no limits to the heights a man might reach, either In education or In a trade. Most Ml trade in commercial practice are used aboard a modern ship of war. These trades are efficiently plied by navy-trained men taken from civil ian life as novices and trained with care to become experts. This training is done In one of the many trade schools maintained by the navy, or it is given aboard ship through the medium of a navy trade or training course. If after an honorable term of enlistment, - he wishes to leave the service he leaves as a trained and skilled craftsman, or. If he wishes to remain in the service he may climb still further up the lad der of success. "The navy man has the advantage of good pay. He has nothing to buy, except a few clothes to replenish his first outfit of clothing. There Is good wholesome food prepared by skilled cooks under sanitary condi tions. A complete outfit of cloth ing and bedding Is furnished free and with proper care should last for years. With proper budgeting and a little thrift, there Is no reason why any man In the naval service cannot save part of his pay. "Skilled doctors and sUrgeons, den tists, pharmacists and nurses, lo cated aboard ship and at hospitals ashore, are constantly on duty, not only to care for, but to prevent sickness and epidemics. All medical, surgical and dental attention Is free. "From the time a man enters until his enlistment is completed, or he re-enllsts, he la under Instruction In one way or another, because the navy is advancing along with other walks of life. Each recruit Is given a 12 weeks' course of preliminary training, covering drills of various sorts, Including infantry drill under arms, seamanship, personal cleanli ness, discipline, signals of different kinds, how to fire a rifle with the care and, safety features of same, how tpf tie various knots and splicing ol ropes, the sailing and rowing ol boats and In the event he cannot swim, he is taught to swim.
