Ehraam, branch manager for the Underwood Elliott Fisher company of Portland, va a Meedford visitor today, on business. Arrives from Spokane Mrs. L. L. VanDusen of Spokane arrived this morning by train to visit here at the home of Vera Nolsnd, 17 Newtown street. Returns from pnrtland N. B. Har ris returned this morning by train from Portland, where he had under gone an examination by the state in dustrial accident commission. From U. 8. C. Eugene Carter, stu dent at the University of Southern California, Is visiting In Medtord. spending a vacation with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Fowler and family of Summit avenue. California Victors Guests at the J. T. Fowler home on Summit avenue include Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Oravell of Long Beach. Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Oravell of Los Angeles. They have all been vacationing on Rogue river. Sat- urday. conducted by the Grace Circle of the Presbyterian church. Fishing at Dam Ed BAur of Los Angeles, a guest here of Al Slettcn gren of Mann's, has never fished for baas in the Rogue river. Consequent ly, the two are planning an expedi tion to Gold Ray dam this evening to try their luck. If It's good. The class meets at 8 o'clock. Visit Bombing Squadron Capt. James F. Spry, and Major Delmar H. Dun ton, post engineering officer, ar rived In a Martin bomber this morn ing from Hamilton field, San Fran .Rafael, Cal. Capt. Spry took off again today for the south, and Major Dun ton remained to take charge of crat ing and packing the dismantled bomber which is being shipped to Ran Diego for reconstruction follow ing a minor accident In landing Monday. Capt. Anderson Visits Among ar rival at the municipal airport today la Capt. A. V. P. Anderson, supply of ficer of the 70th service squadron. Capt. C. P. Anderson, post operations officer at Hamilton field, was also a Medford visitor, arriving by air wltn Col. C. L, Tinker, group commander. Mrs. James Bishop Visits Medford visitors today included Mrs. James Bishop of Tlgard, Ore., who visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hale, of Vancouver avenue. Mr. Bish op, formerly a road contractor In southern Oregon, was very well known In the valley number of years ago. 4 N ACE Major Deveraux M. Myers, com mander of the service department of the 31st bombardment squadron of the United States army, besides sup porting the duties attached to that important office, has also had time to develop Into a remarkable bad minton player It was proved last night, when, teamed with Gain Rob inson, the two won their way to the top of the tournament at the bad minton courts here. After coming through their brack et undefeated they met "Moose" Mulrhead and Mrs. S. M. Tuttle In the finals, and after a bitter strug gle emerged winners by a 15-12 rul ing. The major is practically a be ginner at badminton, but his speed and stamina carried him through his games with a safe margin. He told the badminton club that recreational facilities at Hamilton field have recently been enriched by the addition of badminton courts and equipment, and the field mem bers expect to put a team In the next season tournaments In Califor nia. f- M WILL BE SOUGHT FOR J25P JOB SET NEW RECORDS Establishing two world's record for air transport operation, planes of United Air Lines flying between the Pacific northwest, California and the East completed 99.9 per cent of the 1.505.266 miles scheduled for them during July, according to officials. All but 355 miles were flown, with a third of the company's mileage chalk ed up at night and with every mile covered by twin-engined Boeing transports. In the last sixty days the company has completed 99 4 per cent of approximately 3,000,000 miles scheduled to be flown. Company officials reported that July's showing not only Is the high est percentage of completed schedules for an air line flying more thin a million miles a month but stands as another new record in marking the first time an air line has aver aged 50,000 miles of flying a day. PASS SUNDAY ROGUES PLAY G. MERCHANTS The Medford Rogues will meet the Grants Pass Merchants at Grants Pass Sunday, it was announced to day, arrangements having Just been completed. The Rogues will use the same lineup they had last week, with the exception that Calvert will prob ably be with the club Sunday, start ing In the outfield. The Merchants were runners-up for the Southern Oregon league pennant this year. A delegation of Centra! Point busi ness men interviewed Hockley and discussed plans for the installation of a sewage treatment plant in that city. Talent representatives also in dicated plans for a new sewage plant and system, as did the city of Ash land. Representatives from Butte Frills and Phoenu also spoke to Hock ley, but stated that they did not have any particularly pressing need for government projects now. Major Myers stated this afternoon that purpose of the practice maneu vers has been to gather data as to time elements, equipment and sup plies for the operation of the newly reorgaulzcd squadrons. "This logistic data will be used In recommending the -establishment of new tnbles of equipment for the air force." Major Myers said, "which will be done through consolidation of the various squadrons. Recommendations will be made to congress for necessary changes to keep the army air force effective. The information that has been gathered here this week Is con sldered very valuable." SOCIAL SECURITY FUNDING MEASURE (Continued from hage One) For administrative expenses the bill would allot 91.000.000 for the new social security board, 9200.000 to the children's bureau, 91,000,000 to the public health service and 916.500 to the office of education. It would appropriate 9245.000 for the national labor relations board. 91.260.000 with which the Interstate commerce commission would regulate buses and trucks under newly-enacted law. and the balance for small, miscellaneous Items. In the ten years ending with De cember, 1934, forest fires In Oregon have burned more than 1.880.000 acres; an average of 188.000 acres of forest land or a strip of land 50 miles long and six 'miles wide. "The Irish In Us," which conies here hailed a.t one of tiie season's biggest laugh hits, combines riotous comedy with tense drama, pathos and an unusual triangular romance in volving two brothers in love with the same girl. One of the film's highlights Is a ring battle which, from all reports, Is the fastest piece of action ever recorded for the screen. But. first and last. "The Irish In Us" Is comedy of the "belly laugh" variety. Rialto's Star "Unknown Woman." with Richard Cromwell. Marian Marsh. Douglas Dumbrllle and Henry Armetta In the stellar roles, comes to the Rialto theatre for tomorrow and Saturday. In "Unknown Woman" Cromwell portrays an ambitious young lawyer. Through an eloquent plea in court he attracts the attention of Douglas Dumbrllle, a night club owner and leader of a band of bond thieves. Dumbrllle contrives to have Crom well secrete a million in "hot" bonds In the belief the packet is a legal document. That same night Cromwell meets and befriends Marian Marsh who has been arrested in a gambling house raid. Miss Marsh immediately proves to be a woman of mystery who later schemes to accompany Cromwell to Dumbrille's office where she is ob served rifling the desk and files.
