Clarkafork, Idaho, Democrat, said to
day president Roosevelt would ap
prove the proposed allotment of
5.000,000 for construction of mining
roads throughouht the west.
White said the proposal to con
struct roads through national forest
areas to Isolated mining sites, which
have given Indications of becoming
paying properties, was In line with
the presidential program and had met
with his approval as works relief
project.
Under the program at sponsored by
the forest service In Its request for
5,000,000 transient labor would be
used.

The Wesley League of the First
Methodist church entertained the Ep
worth League Friday evening with a
swimming picnic at Bybee bridge.
The affair was in charge of Arthur
Cook, fourth vice-president, who ap
pointed the following committees:

Joyce Banish; transportation. Bill
Walker and Laurel Morris, and entertainment-

Swimming took up the first part
of the evening, with supper following
around a large camp fire. Games were

gon's application for a federal con
trlbutlon to a new state capltol
building costing 3,600,000 hat been
approved by the public works admin
tstratlon, Senator Charles L. McNary
Informed Governor Martin by tele
gram today.
If the state wishes funds to pur
chase additional grounds for the cap
ltol site a supplemental application
may be filed now or soon after the.
grant has been allowed, McNary said.
The senator's telegram read:
'The application ot the state of
Oregon for a federal grant of 1.750-,
000 to be used In the construction of
a state capltol has been approved by
the public works administration and
it now before the division of appli
cation and information for final con
sideration which will probably will
be had In ten days.
"If the state desires to request
funds to purchase a new site for
additional grounds for the capltol
building a supplemental application
may be filed now or within a reas
onable time after the grant bat been
allowed. Await your further instruc
tions." In reply the governor late today
said:
"Congratulations and thanks. Pro
vided we wish to acquire more land
could you ascertain what help on
purchase price we could get from the
administration?"
Knitting Class To
Open Monday At 10
That old adage, "Like mother, like

the beginning of a Juniors' knitting
class at the Needle Arts Shop in
