the American pharmaceutical associa
tion here August 5 to 10.

Lumber operations In Portland ap
proached normalcy today with lull
crews working at a number of mills
and with others scheduled to be
operating full" blast by the end oi
the week.
Only one of the nine mills here
has failed to resume operation since
start of the strike May 6 by the
Sawmill and Timber Workers' union.
All but one which resumed opera
tions did so under settlement with
the union.
The Eastern te Western company
officials declared they are willing to
make settlement, but will not re
hire workers who took part in "radi
cal" acts during the strike.
Wage Increases averaging five cents
an hour making a minimum of 6U
cents an hour, collective bargaining
and continuance of the 40-hour
week were settlement terms.
DRUG CLERK DIES
SPOKANE, July 30. f AP) A rob
ber shot and killed Harry Phillips,
a clerk. In the holdup of a druf?
store In a residential section here
today and then escaped In an auto
mobile police said wan stolen.
Phillips was alone In the store
when the man entered. Scattered
coins on the floor and disarranged
merchandise Indicated the clerk
struggled with the Intruder, even
after a pistol slug struck him In
the chest. Passersby saw the robber
dash Into the street, followed by
the wounded man, and speed away
In the automobile.
Phillips then collapsed, and died
in a few minutes.

Three men were killed and seven In
jured today by the fall of a heavy
derrick at the base of Twin Falls in
the Snake river canyon, seven mllos
northeast of here, where the Idaho
Power company Is constructing a million-dollar
plant.
The dead are: Fred RAbcr. Twin
Falls; F. E. Hawk.es, Shoshone. Ida.,
and J. A. Andersen, Hagerman. Ida.,
an employe of the Idaho Power com
pany for several years.
A big derrick used for moving ma
terials and machinery up and down
the canyon wall toppled and crashed
almost without warning. The cause
was undetermined.

and means committee.
Chairman Doughton, (D., N. O.),
hoped to get the measure up on the
floor tomorrow. He said that If he
failed It would be taken up "Thurs
day at the latest."
"I hope we can get It passed by
Saturday," Doughton added. "If we
don't we certainly can get It through
by Monday."

Harpers to Leave for Idaho Mr.

Saturday for Twin Palls, Ida., to
spend two weeks visiting Mrs. Har
per's mother, Mrs. Whitney. Mli
Elmeda Harper will remain until
September 15.
Will Krturn from Kant Mr. and
Mrs. O. H. George, accompanied by
Mrs. Fred King and children, who
left by motor the first of June for
the east, are expected to start Sun
day for home, according to word re
ceived here today. They have been
vlsltln at Bartlett. N. H. The return
trip will be made via the northern
route.
Here for Hospital Opening Dr. and
Mrs, M. L. Nellsen of Petaluma. Cal.,
have arrived to spend several days
this week at the home of Dr. and
Mrs. Russell R. Sherwood, and to
attend the opening Thursday of the
new Osteopathic clinic and hospital,
of whloh Dr. Sherwood Is resident
physician. Drs. Nellsen and Sherwood
attended college together In Los An
geles, and were both Interned at Los
Angeles County General hospital.
