Visit With Leaches
During Past Week
Last week was "old home" week for
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene L McGr&ne of
VaJlejo, Calif., who have been the
gueste of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J.
Leach. Mrs. McGrajie will be remem
bered as the former Margaret English,
whose father was auperlntendent of
the Mall Tribune printing shop.
Mr. and Mrs. McCrane wore return
ing from a "circle" tour from San
Francisco through the Panama Canal
to New York City to Columbus, Ohio,
where Mr. McOrane attended the
national Elks convention, thence to
Seattle by way of Lake Louise and
Banff During their brief stay In
Medfo'rd, they were the Inspiration
for a series of delightful Informal
parties.
In their honor, Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Pace entertained with a dinner and
dance at Boney's Grill, Tuesday eve
ning. Mr. and Mrs. Leach entertained for
Mr. and Mrs. McGrane with a dinner
party at their country home near
Central Point, Wednesday evening.

Popularity During
Busy Past Week
While entertainment In the valley
has centered this week around visit
ors who have come to Medford and
vicinity to spend a part of the sum
mer, the calendar has also listed many
local society folk who are taking ad
vantage of the vacation season with
trips away from-home.
Among the most recent departures
are Mr. end Mrs. A. 8. V. Carpenter,
who left on the midnight plane Fri
day for Pasadena, Cal., where they
will be guests of Mrs.' Carpenter's
mother, Mrs. John Blue, for ten days.

The morning meeting opened with
pep songs followed by an inspiring
devotional service coducted by Mrs.
Daisy Douglas of Medford. Mrs. Sams,
president of Roguo River Union, was
enjoyed In a reading, "Pledge with
Wine " Mesdames Wm. Hill and
Paul Byers of Ashland sang a duet,
"Jesus Loves Me." Mrs. Marietta
Pratt led the noontide prayer.
At noon all joined for picnic lunch
and enjoyed the opportulty to become
better aequo! ted with one another.
The afternoon session was opened
with on address by Rev. Glewitz of
Rogue River who touched briefly on
failure of repeal to do away with
Juvenile delinquency or to do away
with unemployment. He also spoke
of on Increase In crime since repeal.
Rev. E. A. Oldenburg of Medford
gave a talk on narcotics, speaking of
the different narcotic drugs and the
effect of each on the user. He par
ticularly emphasized the ropldly In
creasing use of the marihuana clgaret.
Mr Oliver of Medford was enjoyed In
a number of readings and Impersona
tions relating to his early work in
the temperance cause.
Mrs. Lulu Howard of Ashland pre
sented the topic of Temperance and
Missions in an Interesting way. Mrs.
Ellon Thrasher of Grants Pass led an
enthusiastic discussion on the work
of the Loynl Temperance Legion, of
which she Is state director. Mrs.
Hnyes gave the report of the resolu
tions committee. The president named
Mesdames Pratt. Littrell, Sams and
Byers as a nominating committee to
report at the county convention to be
held in Aahland, Sepember 26.

Following Vacation
Trip With Daughter
Dr. Mary R. Strickler of Sleepy
Eye, Minn., a well-known summer
visitor in the valley, has Just arrived
from Alaska, following a six weeks'
vacation tour there with her daugh
ter, Mrs. Charles A. Wing. Mrs. Wing
returned earlier in the month, and
will have Mrs. Strickler as a guest for
a time at the Wing country home.
Mrs. Wing and Dr. Strickler sailed
from Seattle, landing at Seward and
taking the railway Inland as far as
Fairbanks. From there they went by
air to Tanna, and thence . by river
boot up the Yukon river to White
horse. After visits at Lakes Atltn and Ben
nett. Mrs. Wing and her mother made
the return trip via Skagway and
Sitka, sailing to Seattle on the 8. S.
Aleutian.
An interesting souvenir of the trip
is a ship's lantern, which Mrs. Wing
brought back with her to place in the
yard at her home.

marriage at the Methodist parsonage ;
at Medford Tuesday, Rev. Joseph
Knotts performing the ceremony. Mr,
and Mrs. Jack Peebler, parents of the
bride, were In attendance. Following
a luncheon at Hotel Medford, at
which Miss June Peebler of Phoenix,
sister of the bride, was present, the,
newlyweds returned here to the home
of the groom's parents. Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Smith, where the wedding dinner
was served in the evening.

been interesting guests In Medford
the latter part of the week.
Mrs. Howard will be remembered as
the former Miss Edna Marquis. A
group of twelve of her high school
friends gathered Friday evening at
the home of Mrs. Edward J Leach,
to renew old times.
Mr. Howard was expected to arrive
by plane Saturday and the group will
leave together on a vacation trip to
the Oregon Caves, Crater Lake and
other Interesting places in 'southern
Oregon.
Lieut. Ned Harrell
Weds in California
The many friends of Lieut. Ned
Harrell of the United States navy
will be Interested to hear of his mar
riage some time ago to Miss Frances
Louise Vedder of Pasadena. Califor
nia. The wedding took place in the
California city, after which the coup
left for a honeymoon throughout tho
southwest, and Into Old Mexico.
LJeut. Harrell Is the son of Jo&uph
Harrell of Medford, and a brother of
Lieut. Ben Harrell of the United
States army, who married Miss Hir
net Campbell of Medford In 1933. He
graduated from Medford High school,
and from the United States nav.il
academy at Annapolis.
