' The betrothals, both announced some time ago,, have been Incentive ' of much entertaining for Miss Icel In Seattle end Miss Adra In Medford The wedding plans are of Interest to many social groups both here and in th Washington city. Miss Icel Edwards, who hut made her home in Seattle for the past sev eral years, has returned frequently to the valley to be guest of her lather and her sisters, Mrs. Chester Hubbard and the Misses Adra and Georgia Ed wards. She has hosts of friends In and near Medford and her fiance is also known here through visits In this elty since announcement of the engagement. The younger of the two popular brides-elect, Miss Adra, was compli mented recently with a charming bridge party and shower, 14 members of the younger set being entertained by the Misses Margaret Warner and Barbara Hauk at the A. J. Hauk home. Lovely gifts were presented the honor ee In a novel manner employing a treasure hunt. Names of the donors were concealed for the search as well as the gifts. Miss Mar J oris Rlngoon and . Mrs. James Hal Ivor were awarded prizes at bridge. Present besides the hostesses were Misses Adra Edwards, Marjorle and Marian Rlngeon, Clarlta McCormlck, Gertrude Boyle, Carol Dodge, Janet Wray Smith, Sybil Jean Young and Dorothy Paley, and Mesdames Lynn Corydale, James Hallver and Emil Mohr. Lawn Is Setting For Meeting Of Missionary Club On the beautifully lighted lawn surrounded by trees In perfect tran quility, -a lovller setting oould not have been found for the lawn party given by the Women's Missionary society of the First Presbyterian ohurch Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Walter Frazer Brown. Mrs. J. N. Merrltt presided at the short business meeting In the ab sence of Mrs. Geo. Oliver, president. The meeting was opened with prayer by Reverend Shields. A most Interesting and versatile program followed with Mrs. E. Iver son as program chairman. AH Join ed In singing, "How Firm a Foun dation," after which Mrs. A. J. Hanby presented devotional thoughts, Including the reading from the 30th chapter of Matthew, 31 to 41 and closing with a very fine poem "Un awares," followed by prayer and a free will offering which was taken by Clara Daniels and Dolores Ray dressed In Spanish costume. Miss Emily Brown and Mrs. Huson then delighted all with the singing of the boauttful hymn, "Silent Night." in Spanish. After a few words by Mrs. Ivor son regarding missionary work, Mrs. F. Bancroft was presented. She ap peared In the native stylo of Guat emala, and impersonating Mrs. W. B. Alltston, who spent many years as a missionary In that country, gave an enlightening and Interesting talk on the life and work accomplished by the missionaries In the field, their hardships and Joys.j Edith Hodgklns and Mary Bean then sang a song learned in con ference, "I Will Moke You Fishers of Men," first singing In English and then in Chinese. Ml&s Laura Bailey presented the names of missionaries for whom special prayers were offered. Mrs. Cunningham, who Is Mrs. D. W, Luke's daughter, told of the Ufa and work of her husband's uncle and his wife, who are missionaries tn China and named on the list at this time. (Associated Press Phato) Miss Judy Weds Norman Fraley In Pretty Home Rites The marriage of Miss Violet Judy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Judy, of Eugono, and Norman P. Fraiey. son of Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Fraley. of this city, was performed at an attrac tive mid-summer ceremony at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Mlnear on the Jacksonville highway lost Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. In the presence of about SO rela tives and friends of the bridal couple the Rev. James E. Morgan of the Christian church of Ashland read the Impressive ring service. The bride and bridegroom made their wedding vows before a prettily decorated arbor, on the lawn, with mowws of summer flowers arranged at the back and at either side. They took their places to the strains of the wedding march, played by Miss Gene vieve Brown. "O Promise Me" and "I Lo'e You Truly" were sung prior , to the ceremony by Miss Helen Judy. sister of the bride. The bride, who was attended by Miss Irene Judy, a sister, was given in marriage by her father. Adrian Fraley. brother of the bridegroom, was best man. The brldo was attired In a white silk net gown made along princess lines. The. full length veil was caught the ba ndcau which bound her hair. She carried a bouquet of pink carnations and yellow lilies, harmon ized with delicate blue flowers. Miss Judy was attired In a floor length bluo silk organdie gown and carried a bouquet of sweet peas and blue delphinium. At a reception which followed the ceremony, Mrs. Mlnear, Mrs. Judy and Miss Helen Judy were In the receiving line. Agisted by Mrs. Fraley and Mrs. M. B. Llnlnger, of Ashland, they served refreshments, the bride cutlng the wedding cake. Both Mr. and Mrs. Fraley attended Bible colleRo at Eugene lnt year and plan to return this fall. The bride la a niece of Mr. and Mrs. Mlnear. They left on a wedding trip to the coast, after which they will return to make their homo in Medford during the summer. The week's entertainment among the socially prominent from one end of the valley to the other revolved about plans for the event and its success was commented upon by all those present. There were several dinner parties Including members of the younger set preceding the dance. Japanese lanterns hanging through the garden and about the swimming pool lit the scene In pleasant fash ion outside the house, where the guests gathered for buffet supper. Summer flowers were arranged in side, where the guests danced to mu. sic furnished by Al Stewart and his orchestra. Mr, and Mrs. Charles Voorhies were among the guests at a pre-dance dinner given at the A. S. V. Car penter home by Mlas Mary Louise Carpenter and Dunbar Carpenter. The guest list also Included the Misses Frances and Harriet Sparrow, Miss Barbara Cowles, Farwell Kenly, Edward Reames and James Firth. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Carpenter were host and hostess at their home to Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Burgess, Miss Margaret Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Salade and E. W. Carlton. Wenonah Club Meets For t'nrd Party Thursday, Wenonah club met at the home of Juanita Thornton Thursday for tne regular social card party. Tlfere were five tables of bridge In play, with Nellie Purdln winning high prize for the afternoon. The tables were set beneath a large shade tree which helped to make the afternoon a very enjoyable one. Refreshments wore served by Blanche Rlnabarger, Mary Zundell and Vera Thomas, assisted by the hostess. She plans to leave today, continuing a motor trip along the coast. Other guests at the Lloyd Wil liamson home this week have been Mrs. Williamson's sister, Mrs. Wil liam McKlbbln and sons, David and Bruce, who arrived last Monday from Portland for a three weeks' Btay. At the close of the visit they will be Joined by Mr. McKlbbln, a former well-known resident of Medford. whom they will accompany back, to the Rose City. The Brophys visited friends on the Russian river and spent the re mainder of the time in San Francisco. I t Wedding In Peru Will Unite Local Man, Illinois Girl Word of a wedding in Oroya, Peru, which will be of great interest to many In Medford and vicinity was received here yesterday when' it was told that Miss AH he a Mitchell of HUlsboro, 111., daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Mitchell of Pan ama, sailed for the South Ameri can city July 12 to become the bride of Adrian M. Lofland, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Lofland of 225 South Oakdale avenue, this city. Mr. 'Lofland formerly made his home In Medford, having been here until the first of the year, when he returned to South America to ac cept a position as engineer for the Cerro de Pasco Copper corporation at Oroya. The romance began In Chill, while Miss Mitchell, a graduate of the University of Illinois, was for three years on the teaching staff of San tiago college. Miss Mitchell Is a lece of Mrs. Orenda Savage of Pan ama, and her late father was presi dent of the State Bank of Panama.
