SALEM, July 18. (AP) A plea for
a capltol building "with respect for
the future," and not ft "log cabin
capltol at a cost of 9360,000," wta
voiced by Governor Martin, speaking
before members of the Salem Rotary
club yesterday,
"We are not going back to ox cart
days and wo want these fellow who
are opposing us to understand It,"
the governor declared.
The governor Insisted he did not
want the capltol financing project
put to a vote of the people, because
the "croakers" could be expected to
oppose an adequate structure.
The executive reiterated that an
adequate building could be con
structed for 3,600,000 and declared
that the financial condition of the
state's general fund was the best In
10 years, making It possible for a
special session of the legislature to
vote a continuing appropriation to
match promised federal contributions.

lowa county ha been suggested for
use in Oregon's new state capltol
building.
D. B. Reavls, Wallow county clerk,
sent Secretary of State Bnell piece
of the polished black marble for use
as a- paper weight and sample of
what the quarries could offer for
use as trim In the new state house.
The marble, declared to be better
than Belgium's best product, Is avail
able In unlimited quantity, Reavls
said.
White marble can also be obtained
from nearby quarrlet In the eastern
Oregon country.
Ashland ha suggested It granite
for the new building. The board of
control ha gone on record In favor
of Oregon product for the building.

men.

report said.
