Mr. Burket Is a retired Pennsylva
nia farmer, having lived in that state
since he was a boy. Both are life
long friends of Mr. and Mrs. Hagerty,
who say it has been a great treat to
entertain them In their home.
They took their departure early Fri
day morning. Intending to spend one
day in Portland, thence to Seattle,
from where they will sail for Alaska
on July 30 for a stay of three weeks.
On returning to Seattle, they will
toke their car and start the home
ward trip, traveling throught Canada
and visiting Banff, Lake Lonlse and
other points of Interest en route.
Both were so well Impressed with
southern Oregon, and especially with
those whom they met while here, that
they said they would like to come
back and make Medford their per
manent home.

tain at a party to be held on the
lawn at the home of Mrs. Walter Fra-

at 8 o'clock Tuesday evening, July 18.
A novel and Intereatlng program
will be presented, including Spanish
songs and an address by a mlaslonsry
who win appear in the native style
of Guatemala. She will bring a mes
sage portraying the lire and work of
missionary who epent a lifetime In
that country. Two young glrla In
Spanish costume will give everyone
an opportunity to hava a part In the
advancement of this much needed
work.
A cordial invitation is extended to
all who are Interested In missionary
work and especially to the men of the
church, aa this will be the means or
gaining knowledge or the real work
accomplished in the field.

A devotional period conducted by
Eva McNary was followed by a busi
ness meeting, after which Mrs. Grace
Panky presented an Interesting pro
gram of brief book reviews. Among
the books reviewed were "Christianity

"The Church and Society" by F. Ern
est Johnson; "Religion Renounces
War" by Walter Van Kirk; "The Jew
and World Ferment" by Basil Math

Chrysanthemum Thimble club No.
233, Neighbors of Woodcraft, enter
tained the .Juveniles of the Chrysan
themum circle Thursday, at Jackson
Hot Springs with a delightful picnic
lunch.
It was one of the most successful
picnics ever given by the cltfb for the
Junior members with 17 Juveniles and
17 senior members present.
The picnic was followed by swim
ming and every one thoroughly en
Joyed the outing.
Besides the regular members and
Juveniles there were several out-of-
town guests present to enjoy the day.

An appeal for old magazines aa
reading matter for the new CCO
camps In the Medford district waa
Issued Saturday by A. H. Ban well,
manager of the Chamber of Com
merce. Although the war department sup
plies regular magazine subscriptions
for the CCC camps, the new com
panies In the district have not yet
received their full quotas of men
and do not enjoy the status of reg
ular companies. A a result, the
men now assigned to these camps
are short of reading matter and
the Chamber of Commerce hopes to
receive a supply of old magazines
for their use.
Magazines suited for men's read
ing are especially desired. The maga
zines should be left at the Cham
ber of Commerce headquarters.

Seattle, arrived In Medford recently
to accept a position with Mann'a
Department store, where she Is In
charge of ladles ready-to-wear and
sportswear.
Before coming to southern Oregon,
Ml ss Lancaster was associated with
Best's Apparel, Incorporated, in the
northern state. She was buyer for
several departments at Best's which
Is one o the smartest stores In Se
attle. She is thoroughly acquainted
