Porter on Honor Roll Word was received here today that Ellas H. (Junior) Porter of this city, a gradu ate of Medford high school, was on the honor roll for high scholarship during the spring term at University of Oregon. He was the only one from Medford listed out of 114 stu dent. Owen's Nephew Passes Word was re ceived here today of the death in Wisconsin of John O. Owen, nephew of Jomes Owen of Medford and son of John S. Owen. The wire which announced the death stated that the young man died this morning of asthma, a condition with which he had been afflicted for several years. Barnum In I.ong Beach Word w .s received here ftoday that Bill Bar num and Dr. B. R. Elliott are at Long Beach, Cal this week, where Dr. El liott Is attending Pacific coast den tal conference at the municipal au ditorium at Rainbow pier. Monday, Bamum visited Catallna leland and last Saturday he visited Cocoanut Grove. They are leaving Saturday for San Diego. "Show Boat" Visits The "Oregon Show Boat," traveling movie and lec ture service, is cruising southern Oic- gon this week, according to officials of Rogue River national forest. Op erated by Phil Hayter, representative of the state forester's office, and Har old Thomas, representative of the re gional forest service ofice at Port land, the "Show Boat presented movies and Illustrated lectures Wed nesday night at Jacksonville and 'last night at Applegate CCC camp. It will be In Butte Falls tonight and at Elk Creek CCC camp Saturday night. Subjects of the movies and talks are activities of the CCC in the forest-. Oil For Lamps Of China9 Coming Sun. July 12. (AP) The state industrial accident commission today reported one fatality In Oregon in dustries during the week ending July 11. The unusually large total of 806 accidents was reported. The acci dent victim was James M. State n of Coquille. Anlo Wrecked; Snake Kscnpes. NEW BERN, N. C. ( UP) When Capt. J. J, Day Jerked his car across the road to run ocer a snake, the machine rolled down an eight-foot embankment. Day and his wife were bruised and shaken. Their 10-year-old daughter sustained a severe cut. The anake was not injured. Card of Thanks. Sunday as the time for the state-wide Instruction meeting pre liminary to launching the Oregon works campaign. The meeting, to be held In Port land, Is to be attended by the four 3itrlct administrators, heads of de partments announced several days ao. Governor Martin, Mayor Joe Car son, Allen Johnstone, who will rep resent national administrator. Harry Hopkins and representatives of plan ning commissions, the FERA. SERA re-employment wsrvice and other gov ernmental groups. Beginning next week. Griffith said, "The works progress administration expectsexpects to be In a position to give consideration to all project ap plications." J. K, Thompson of Pendleton, who.se appointment ns administrator for district 1 waa announced earlier this week. Is to have Jurisdiction over Sherman, Gilliam, Morrow. Umatilla, Wallowa, Union. Wheeler, Grant, Baker, Harney and Malheur counties. Burton E. Palmer, Jr., engineer lawyer who has been in charge of the works projects of the SERA. Is to be ndmlntstrator for district 2, with headquarters in Portland, com prising Clatsop, Columbia, Washing ton, Multnomah, Clackamas, Hood River. Wasco, Jefferson, Deschutes and Crook counties. James E. Smith, former Marion county commissioner and Salem busi ness man, was named administrator for district 3. consisting of Tillamook, Yamhill, . Polk. Linn, Lane. Benton, Marlon and Lit. coin couttes. Head quarters are to be at Salem. Thomas W. Delzell of Medford, who Griffith said was beig "loaned" by the California-Oregon Power com pany. Is to maintain headquarters at i Medford for supervision of district 4, comprising Douglas, Coos, Curry, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath and Lake counties. Each director Is to appoint his own staff.
