Edgar Hoover, commander of the G-men. asserted today that they hive the fastest communication a system of any national policy agency In toe world. I Describing the new oommuntca-1 tions section of the justice depart ment's bureau of investigation, he said: "We have a specially constructed telephone switchboard that makes it possible to hook up all our 37 offices at once. "During the Weyerhaeuser Investi gation on several occasions we had telephone conferences with agents In Washington. Salt Lake City. Butte. Mont., and other places all connected. "I have a connection with this switchboard in my home and so do several of my assistants. There you see the kidnap numbers 'National 7117 and National 7118" in red. Tho?e wires are kept open. "Within the last few days our tel etype system has been put into oper ation. We have connections with all the 37 offices which are manned 24 hours a day. "The advantage of this Is not only faster communication with our of fices but we can hook up with oil police offices which have teletypes. "I don't think that any country In Europe or any place else has what he already have telegraph." '., Besides the operating staff, the communications section Includes a deciphering staff. The section num bers 30 men in Washington and an operator in each of the 37 offices. BONDS FOR WATER SOLD BYJALEM SALEM. June 35. (AP General obligation water bonds totaling 1.100.000 were sold by the city ol Salem last night at an interest rate lightly below three and one-quarter per cent a year. It was the largest bond, sale In the history of tne city. The bonds were purchased by a group of five investment houses headed by the first Boston corpora tion of Boston, with which were af filiated the Eldredge & Co., the First Security Co,, and E. M. Adams & Co., of Portia nd and Con rad . Bruce & Co., with offices In Salem. Proceeds from the sale will be used to complete the purchase of the Oregon -Washington Water Service company holdings here. The trans fer of the water plant to the city was expected within 30 days. WORK RELIEF FUNDS ALLOTMENTS LISTED WASHINGTON. June 3S. (API The federal allotment board Monday recommended distribution of $131 010,025 of the works relief fund for a variety of projects. The principal allocation waa 1116.- 000.000 for the federal emargency li lief administration for direct aid dur ing July. Other recommendations Incluoed 3.239.630 for 23 army projects and 3.300,000 for soil conservation work by the department of agriculture. The resolution, which called for the appointment of three senators to comprise an Investigation com mittee, waa declared by Senator Stelwer to hnve been prompted, by reports of alleged abuses of con signment shipping by wool dealers In not maintaining a balance be tween their own stocks and the stocks received on consignment.
