Mr. Renfro was In excellent spirits snd his gunning ability was commanding the respect of all his fellow sportsmen. Weather conditions again were ex cellent when today's program opened. ORDER WARM OKLAHOMA CITT, June 14. (AP) Federal Judge Edgar S. Vaught today overruled a motlonof Ben B. Laska, Denver attorney, for a directed ver dict of acquittal in hia trial on chargea of conspiracy In allegedly ac cepting part of the Charles F. Urschel kidnaping ransom for defense attor ney feea. Judge Vaught granted a similar motion of James C. Mathers, youthful Oklahoma City attorney charged Jointly with Laska, after Mathers had made a brief statement of denial from the witness stand. In overruling Laaka's motion. Judge Vaught held there was sufficient evi dence to permit the case to go to the Jury. The motions were made at the con clusion of rebuttal testimony. Final arguments began as Lanka's motiou was overruled. Laska, attorney for Albert Bates, serving a life sentence for the kid naping of Urshel, millionaire oil man, dented vigorously he had received any part of tho ransom fund. RETAIL BUSINESS LEAPS UPWARD IN ER Lion Laurence Pennington was principal speaker at the weekly Lions club luncheon yesterday, reporting on the state Lions convention recently held at The Dalles. He displayed the blue ribbons won by Ted and Evelyn Schrader and their dancing stunts in the entertain ment contest conducted by each dele gation of Lions. The Schrader pupils, who won first snd second prises at the convention, were Ilene McClellan. Betty St. Louis, Jack Moran Jr.. and Floradala Campbell. The pxiplts distributed Rogue River valley pears to the delegates during the boat trip along the Columbia river, and Mr. Pennington reported that the fruit met with much favor able comment. It was reported that plans are being formulated to hold the next annual convention of Lions International in Medford. Lion Roy Elliott, who recently com pleted a motor trip east, reported novel experiences In the dust storms he encountered. Nominations of officers will be con tinued for two weeks. The number of doslers registered during the same period was 520. an Increase of 36.7 per cent over the 410 during the previous year.
