(Spl) The Strawberry Festival held at the Mc Leod camp ground Saturday was ft decided success, with an attendance of over one hundred from Bhady Cove to Prospect. A parade of children's decorated floats, led by the Prospect Boosters, marched from the store to the camp ground, where the lovely strawberry queen. In the person of Miss Betty Coburn. was led to her throne by her maids of honor, and ladtes In watting. Frank Dltsworth, with r 1 ' ' . H ' ' " T. ... finest strawberries, pears and other fruits, but also the finest looking: girls, proudly crowned the queen. The throne was placed in a beaut iful setting before a grove of aiders on the bank of the Roue. Nearby flowers, ferna and ahruba supple mented by a few boqueta of rosea, furnished mor; of the decorations. The queen ww handsomely gowned in a dress of red crepe paper 01 many scalloped flouncee, with ft collar of green designed in the fash- Ion of the strawberry leaf. Tht crown was also made of strawberry leaves, ecu 11 oped with tinsel, with large berries encircling the top. AH the attendants were dressed In var ious colored crepe paper gowns and made ft lovely picture in ft most perfect setting. A program of tonga, folk dancing and recitals, all by children, fol lowed, after which the crowd gath ered at tables laden with quantities of luscious mountain -grown berries from the Dltsworth and Vaughn ranches as the essentials. After a, period of relaxation the balance of the afternoon was spent In the enjoyment of games, races, etc., fo everyone. The festival was ft climax to ft most successful year's activities of the McLeod Home Extension Unit under leadership of Mra. W. D. Co burn, chairman. The contest for queen was directed by Mrs. E. U Cllass, and was ft tremendous suc cess, the amount of 921.93 belnf realized. The plan of selling votee for one cent a vote, went over big, the boya of the neighborhood competing for the honora. Cecil Rodger was awarded a prize for securing tht . most vote. Miss Erma Glass dir ected the children's parade and cor onntlon, which was so thoroughly enjoyed by all . Little Mary Ann Ohrt won the prize for best float. She rode In her little chariot dec orated in orange and green with two little boya at the head and a little Miss holding ft parasol over her, directly behind her.
