After all. there is something new

chain letter, for Mrs. Hester Pence of
this district Is experiencing the thrill
for the first time in all of her 99
years.
A dime came in the mail a few
days ago, bringing much Joy to the
nged lady who had felt bitter dis
couragement at the long wait for her
name to top the list. So keen waa
her disappointment that she at first
believed her dime to be a joke. Mrs,
Pence received half a dozen letters,
replying to two of them. The fact
that she was unable to copy her let
ters personally did not detract from
her pleasure In playing the game,
however.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Helms of upper
Applegate are spending the week
camping at Squaw Lake, having gone
there Sunday after being guests at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd
Rlppey here. Mr. and Mrs. Helma
returned recently from a six weeks'
motor trip to Turlock, Cal., where
they visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rudd
formerly of this community. They
also wore guests of their daughter In
San Francisco.
