Gordon MacCracken of Ashland, snrretnry of the association, and S. 8. Smith, member of the roads and high way committee of the chamber of commerce, appointed to the executive committee by judge Earl B. Day, at tended the meeting. It was the unanimous opinion of the committee, as It has been at the general meetings of the association for the past two or three years, that the rebuilding of the road over the Sisklyous is the first and most im portant work to be done on the Pa cific highway. The highway commis sion Is very favorable to this project and will allot all the funds possible for the work, according to the gov ernment regulations for the expendi ture of these funds. Figures prepared by this a.saoclatlon show that the territory served by the Pari fie: highway In Oregon represents 70.35 per cent of the population. 62', per cent of the tax valuation, and that. 73 per cent of the non-resident enrs registered In the state last year were registered In cities along this highway. Dodi and Plymouth. The AUTO WAY- By Cyril Sander The Na.sh Motor company has Just Introduced a, new car to America, ft Is known as the Nash "400." and hM many new features never before found on a Nash car. It Is a medium sized car at a moderate price. The wheel base la 117 Inches, while the treads are S3 and 60 inches which axe quite wide for a car of this wheel base, rt also has an extra large. 64 Inch front seat. Some of the other "features are the very long rear springs, end the double acting shock absorbers front and rear. We also gt quit a surprise when we were told that the car had an all ateel top and body. In this type of body one is completely surrounded by steel atee! body, steel floor, and steel top. Th;s new car Is alao equipped with super hydraulic brakes which is something new for Nash. Among the two or three very new body features Is In cluded the hood opening which we believe Is exceptionally novel. In the first place If you wish to put in either water or oil. all you have to do is lift the radiator ornament and there you have both the water tank and oil pine. We believe this la a good Idea because It does away with the neces sity of opening the hood and foolln? with greasy pipes when you wish to replenish your oil supply I However, most exceptional was the regular hood opening where you can get to the entire engine If you wish. To do this you undo a latch on either side of the hood, and then undo two bolt In the front at the base of the radi ator shell, you lift both the top and sides. Of course, this leaves the en gine entirely free from the surround ing body. whlh makes it easier to work on. While we are speaking about the engine we might also mention the fact that this new Nash engine is not Just the conventional type, but Is considerably different. The main difference being that all of the wires. tubes, and gadgets one usually finds on the exterior of the ordinary c&r engines are now concealed In the block itself. The really odd thing About the rear end la that there is a protruding trunk Just aa la fourd on most touring sedans, but the whole trunk opens up. This makrs the storing of luggage very conveni ent. . Notice is hereby given that I wMl ot be responsible for any debts In curred by anyone other than myself C. E. KNUTZEN. 112 So. Riverside.
