California, vu arrested at Myrtte Creek Thurs day and returned to Roseburg to answer to a charge of contributing to the "delinquency of a minor. Charg es against McGee were brought by the parents of a 16-year-old girl, not named by the police, after the girl, had disappeared from her home tn company with McGee Tuesday night. She returned home early Thursday and police learned that McGee had bean seen travelling south and suc ceeded in having him stopped at Myr tle Creek. According to a report from Sheriff Percy Webb. McGee told officers that he had taken the girl to Portland for a surgical operation but found no physician "Vllllng to perform the serv ice. He returned her to her home and attempted to continue Into Califor nia. He is also reported by the officers to have said he and the girl hid planned to marry as soon as he could complete a divorce now pending In Reno. Nevada. The girl Is in custody of the Juvenile court. It Is charged, that dil atory procedure and failure to push prosecutions allowed the robbers to continue their activities, to their profit as well as to that of the negli gent Judges. The affair was unearthed by J. Capart, director 'of the Royal Mu usems of Belgium, who reported It to the Paris Academy of Inscriptions. He found the details inscribed on an Egyptian papyrus which he had dis covered which demonstrated that in the sixteenth year of the reign of Rameses IX corrupt Justice was as lenient with the desecrators of the tombs of the Pharaohs of Thebes as more modern Judges are sometimes accused of being with contemporary offenders. The bad state of the papyrus un fortunately did not allow the Aca demy of Inscriptions to discover whether Egypt punished her erring magistrates In a barbarous outdated manner, or whether she was suffi ciently civilized to follow the present enlightened method of promoting them to higher positions.
