The Junior-senior banquet was held May 11 at the Orange hall. Mr. Zumwalt la building a new house In the south part of Jackson ville facing the highway. Work on the building is progressing rapidly. Fair king, here Wednesday. Mr. Fendal, father of Mra. Lola HUdreth, left recently for his cabin in the Slsklyous, where he spends the summer months. C. B. Dunnlngton spent several days last week visiting here. A benefit dance for the Boy Scout Jamboree was held in the U. 8. hotel Wednesday night. Mr. and Mra. Kennedy and family ,, have moved to the C. Com munity club held the final mooting of the Mason Wednesday at the dub room at which time officer for the enduing year wore elected and plans completed for the annual party, Juno 6. The school attended the May feslval at Sams Valley May 10 and enjoyed very pleasant day which consisted of a program, track races, the high school play and a baseball game. Ma rie S eg miller, high school student from here, was crowned May queen. Ins, Pearl Lucas was In the May pole dance. Three prizes were carried away by Beagle school In the track events. Orvaj Moore won first prize In the running broad Jump. Tommy Mulhollen first in a 100-yard dash, and Truman Brown second In a 100 yard dash. Medford visitors Friday were Mrs. Frlnk. Mrs. Murphy, Miss Huns&ker and Mr. and Mrs. Brown. Donald Orant had the misfortune to throw his hip out of joint while partaking In the field stunts at Bams Valley Friday. He Is under the care of a doctor and what little he gets around Is with the aid of crutches. Mother's day was observed by the Ant loch community Sunday school with a Mother's day sermon by Rev. Millard of Rock Dell Park. The mes sage was enjoyed by all present. Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Voting and family of Willow Springs, Rev. Mil lard and daughter Joan of Rock Dell Park, Mr. and Mrs. Melvln Martin of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Sater and daughter Derva Jeanne of this place and Milton Sanderson of the Illlhee orchard were Sunday visitors at the Sanderson home. Mrs. Ysunza and son, John, of Med ford were Sunday visitors at the Adolph Schuls home; also little Viv ian Mulhollen of this place. Ore. fUP) A bottle set adrift by the Japanese hydrographlc depsrtment to test ocean currents, was picked up at the mouth ol Siletz bay by Ed Ankeny. Sllvcrton, after It had been drifting for 24 years. A note In the bottle said It was dropped In mid-ocean September 5, 1911. Thousands of such note-filled bottles have been thrown Into the sea by the Japanese. The card found In this one was 01,355. A similar find was reported re cently at Marshfleld. where a bottle dropped Just off the Japanese coast was cast up on the Oregon shore. Japanese scientists have been trying j to determine the exact speed and precise movements of the Japanese current that ranges northward past the Islands of Nippon, across by way of the Aleutian Islands down the west coast of the United States and back across to Asia again, making the round trip every few years. RE-ELECI Ohio May Legalize Lottery COLUMBUS, Ohio (UP) Lotteries operated by the state will be legal ized In Ohio if a constitutional amendment proposed by representa tives to the general assembly is adopted. The resolution proposing the amendment was offered as aid to financing relief activities. OF BAPTIST ASSOCIATION PENDLETON, Ore., May 17. (AP) Dr. H. J. Maulbetsch of Portland was Thursday re-elected president of the Oregon Baptists' association at the close of the annual three-day conference here. Dr. Maulbetsch. yesterday elected president of the Baptist men's group, resigned that position upon re-election to association leadership, and Dr. Oeorge Wlnalow of Bend will suc ceed him aa head of the men's unit. A vice-president will be named later. The Rev. J. R. Turnbull of Albany was elected vice-president; Dr. C- B. Tunnello of Portland, recording sec retary; W. C. Sims of Portland, treas urer; Dr. C. O. Wright, historical secretary, and Dr. F. W. Starring of Portland, executive secretary. Albany was awarded the 1936 con vention. The conference here was attended by 280 registered delegates from all parts of Oregon. The delegates made a pilgrimage to Weston for services at the tomb of David Lennox, founder of the first Baptist church In Oregon. Earth Is Sinking INLAND, Calif. (CP) The earth Is sinking. It has sunk three Inches here during the last three years. Residents today hardly know what to expect next. The discovery was mode by the Coast Geodetic Survey, which revealed that the lowering of the surface of the ground has oc curred over a comparatively large area near Salton Sea.
