CHICAGO. May 18. (AP) Death
ha ended the long scientific career
of Dr. Edwin Brant Frost, who reach
ed his greatest eminence as an as
tronomer after he had lost his eye
sight. He was 68 years old.
Peritonitis was said by physicians
to have been the cause of his death,
which occurred at 4 :55 p. m. yester
day at the Billings Memorial hos
pital, where the famous astronomer
'underwent sn operation last May 13
for the removal of gall stones. His
wife, who assisted him In his scien
tific work nfter he went blind 16
years ago. and other members of his
family, were with him when the end
enme.

Frank Fallow spent Saturday with
their parents, Mr .and Mrs. J. H. Tyr
rell of the Jacksonville highway.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Farlow were
host and hostess Sunday to their
children, Mrs. Eva Nichols and chil
dren and Mr. and Mrs. Gold Zundell,
also Mrs. Carlyle Natwlck of Eagle
Point. They had a picnic dinner on
the banks of Little Butte creek.
Mrs. C. E. Wilkinson returned home
Sunday from a visit with her sister
at Sawyer Bar. She was accompa
nled by her son-in-law and daughter
Mr. and Mrs. Claud Jones, of Talent,
who spent the day with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Tonn of Cen

of Ashland, moved Into their beauti
ful home up Wagner Creek last week.
They bought the old Powers place
last fall and have remodeled the
house, painted H and put a new roof
on, besides msny other Improvements

oldest; Mrs. -Edward Taylor and Mrs.
Hownrd Combs shared honors for the
youngest mothers; and a pri was
given to Mrs. Charles Cownn for hav
ing the most children. Mrs. Cowen
has eight living children. Refresh
ments were served.

cluding Howsrd Works, Jr., of Wag

the time before lunch, which was
covered dish style. Twenty-five were
present. Afternoon session was called
to order by Chairman Dorothy Stew
ard and given over to singing, led
by Coilsta Johnson. After the usual
business matters were dispensed with
Mrs. Mack again presided, giving an
etiquette lesson on table service and
setting and rules for hostess and
guests. Afternoon tea sandwiches and
hot spiced grape Juice were demon
strated and enjoyed by the ladles.
The Inst meeting of the year was
held today at the Ornnge hall with
the usual pot luck dinner at noon.
The Olrl Scout patrol, led by their
captain. Mrs. Emma Darland. and
accompanied by Mrs. Adel Purrier and
Elsie Chrlstopherson, enjoyed a hike
and picnic dinner up Pleasant creek
Saturday. The girls fried their po
tatoes and roasted welners over their
camp fire at noon. During the after
noon they learned trail blazing and
various kinds of knots required In
their training.
A number of the young folks of the
vicinity attended the dunce at Rogue
River Saturday night.
H. R. Orlswold and faintly returned
to their home near Wlmer after an
absence of six months In Los Ang
eles, called there by the Illness of
Mrs. Oiiswold's father, who passed
away recently.
Elmer Nation went to San Fran
cisco Friday, taking the household
equipment belonging to George Sim
ons down to them. Mr. Simons op
erated the Train sawmill Inst sum
mer but Is now employed In the bay
city.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Moore are
the parents of a five-pound baby
boy. born In Grants Pass May 4.

Mrs. Jnck Steward spent Tuesday
In Grants Pass visiting her father,
who ts a patient In the Grants Pass
hospital, recovering from Intestinal
flu which developed pneumonia.

the diversion of the evening. At mid

Evans Valley Townsend club which
now has 63 members, will give a box
social and entertainment next Wed
nesday evening to which the entire
valley Is Invited. A speaker from
Grants Pass will be present, accord
ing to the local chairman. Lawrence
Johnson, and a general good time
will be enjoyed. Each meeting gains
new members and It Is hoped that
they will be 100 per cent strong In
the valley soon.
