Is expected to arrive Friday for the summer, from his winter headqunrtera at San Francisco. Hughes at work Oliver (Odl Hughes has reported at Crater lake national park for duty this summer. He Is to be a member of the rangers' srtaff. Visit In Pherwonds Dr. and Mrs. Vay Peterson of Loa Angeles are visit ing In Medford at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Russell Sherwood for a few days. Dr. and Mrs. Peterson are on their way to Canada. HEMES ENJOY VOYAGE THROUGH CANAL AFTER WASHINGTON D.C. VISIT After a 18-day sea voyage aboard the Dolllar liner President Wilson, from New ToTk to Los Angeles, via the Panama canal. Mr and Mrs. Evan Reames returned to Medford on the Shasta today, having been away for seven weeks. Mr. Ron m went to Washington to appear before the U. S. supreme court In behalf of the California Oregon Power company in their legal dispute with the Beaver Portland Cement company over water right from Rogue river. He also devoted two weeks to business matters In New York. The return on the palatial liner. Mr. and Mrs. Reames declare to be the finest vacation trip they ever made. They stopped In Havana for a short time, spent a day and a half In Panama, and visited with friends in boa Angeles for a day and a half. While In the southern California dry they visited with Tom Travis, former ly with the Standard OH company here, and with Wes Ore on. formerly here with the Pacific Fruit and Pro duce company. Upon their arrival today. Mr. Reames stated that the trip was the greatest rest he had ever had. ana that he was now ready to take up his law work with increased vigor. FESTIVAL ENJOYED AT SAMS VALLEY SAMS VALLEY. May 14 (Spl.l The May festival sponsored by the Sums Valley high school was attend ed by more than 200 residents. In cluding patrons and students from Anttnch. Table Rock and Meadows. The dnys program was opened when Miss Marie Seegmlller, elected queen of the festival by the student body, was crowned on her throne by Prin cipal E. W. Empey. Other features followed in succession, Including the winding of the May pole by 10 pri mary Htrls. dressed In crepe paper costumes of various shades In at tractive colors. Entertaining musical numbers were Blvcn by Anlloch. Meadows and Sams Valley students. The Antloch har monica band, which Included some very voting students, attracted con sldrrable attention with their display oi musical talent. Juat before the basket dinner m served athletic contests were held In which the dif ferent schools won their share of blur ribbons. Jerry Pttrgornld and MiMred DucBsn were clowns for the mornlne"s performance and kept the aurt'.en-e in a good humor by their comic antics. In the afternoon an Interesting ball came was put on by the Central rolnt. and Sams Valley high school students In which the local xya came out winners. Four youths from southern Oregon left yesterday by train for Portland to take their final examinations for enlistment In the United Statea navy. They were J. R. Tungate of Butte Palls, J. C. Abemathy of Kerby, Ore., Oerald Critchlow of Phoenix, and A. W. Lim beck of Central Point. If the examln- ationa are passed, they will go to San Diego for preliminary training. West Has Visitors Mr. and Mrs. S. M. West have as visitors at their home this week Mrs. C. C. Keasler and Mias Inez Whlttacker of Paaadena. Miss Whlttacker being a sister of Dixie Whlttacker of Al O. Mr. West, who is naval recruit ing of i leer for the Medford district and his guests made a fishing trip to Squaw lake Sunday, reporting several fine catches of trout. To Install Equipment The first shipment for Crater Lake National park this spring will be made Thurs day, according to L. R. Chandler, pur chasing agent, who la making prep arations to take the material Into the lake via the south entrance. During the trip the equipment will be car ded by hand over a half-mile bar rier of snow which ha not yet been plowed from the road. Chandler, who recently returned from a trip to the south entrance, said It la now pos sible to drive into tne park for some distance. BID TO SPEAK ON SEAL OE GOD Rev. W. R. UL miLni FAV0RPR0GRAM The wheat production adjustment referendum Is now underway among wheat growers of Jackson county, according to County Agent Robert O. Fowler. The vote, he says, is running about three to one In favor of continuation of the present wheat adjustment profrram. There are 104 whe 6 throwers In the county eligible to vote. Ballot title of the referendum Is: "Are you in favor of a wheat pro duction program to follow the pres ent one. which expires with the 1OT5 crop year?" All of the Jackson county wheat growers have not yet voted, accord ing to Fowler. Meeting will b held this week to complete the voting. Ballots and tabulations must be in Washington, D. C, by May 36. The referendum Is nation-wide, for the purpose of determining the sentiment of. wheat men on the ad ministration program for wheat.
