During this last week a Chrysler Custom Imperial, six-passenger se- dan was on the local dealer's floor for a short while, during which we had a good time inspecting It. The car was sold locally. You will probably recall that we compared the Chrysler "Airlow" Im perial with the plain Chrysler "Air flow" a number of weeks ago well, this Custom Imperial will compare with' the Imperial Just about like the Imperial compared with the ordinary "Airflow." In other words, this Custom Imperial is Just about the hetghth of luxurious motor car transportation as conceived by Chrysler. In looking over this car the first thing that attracts your attention Is its tremendous size. We believe that the doers are the largest we have seen on any four door sedan, and the body la so wide i it comes out so far that there are hardly any running boards. In fact we believe that they could be en tirely eliminated and few people would ever notice the difference. By the way, the over-all length of this car Is about eighteen and a halt feet. The appearance of things in the Interior was something like this to us: You sit back in a soft, wide, rear seat and stretch your legs com fortably to the convenient, indi vidual foot rests with what seems to us would be ample room for most anyone, and then after that there are about a couple of feet of still more space before you even get to the front vat! Of course, in the front seat Which la easily adjust able, you also have more than am ple room with a beautiful dash board Just "in front of you wltn many conveniently located Instru ments such as automatic overdrive, light switches, and the built-in radio. Of course there are many other conveniences for the passen gers such as three lighters and ash trays, (although I didn't count each one 1 belieev that is correct) assist cords, arm rests In front and rear, two dme lights, and conveniently located parcel pockets, along with the baggage compartment behind the rear seat. The price of this car is around $3,000, delivered here In Mcdford. Although this car was the six passeuger model, an eight passenger limousine may also be obtained on the same chassis. The limcuslne has these added fentures: two opera This year's "Atrstream" DeSoto haa. in our opinion, accomplished something entirely different and new In their "floating ride." Little doubt, anyone that has ridden in the "Airstream" DeSota knows how smooch th ride is. but probably many of them don't know why. This la It. In this DeSoto they have utilized tha type of weight distri bution which was first used on the Airflows" last year, but besides that they have also added the pan tograph type of independent front wheel suspension which haa hereto-fore been considered ample lor taking the Jumps and Jolts out ot a, ride. Of course with Just those two features alone the car would give a wonderfully "soft" ride, but the DeSoto engineers stilt weren't satisfied so they added that new type of tapered leaf rear spring that haa been widely publicized along with doublt action hydraulic shock absorbers In the front and single action ones In the rear. Then, on top of all of that, they equipped the car with atrwheels for as perfect a ride as possible. Perhaps now. after this somewhat technical dis cussion, you will understand why the "Airstram" DeSoto U such good riding car.
