Testimony at the advisory hearing was given by the parenta of June Pone Hansen, her brother. Chief of Police C. O. McCredle. Paul Jennings, the defrndant, C. C. Furnas, his em ployer snd Robert Walker and Wil liam Mlnear, two smell boya, who were close to the scene of the acci dent on West Main street when It occurred. Photographa and a map of the accident were also presented to the Jury. Questioning of the witnesses waa conducted by the court. McKovllt, for many years manager of the Western Union here but now retired on company pension, liaa been named aucce&aor to Howard MwTlam, recalled number of the Lane county delegation in the legislature. - Mr. McKcvltt is a Republican and n ardent supporter of the Townsend plan. The county court declared the choice a loRical one. Though the court la solidly Democratic, it held -that a Republican should succeed the recalled Republican, especially since the Democrats have one legis lative member, C. P. Hyde. The chtoce of an avowed Townaeiuier waa advocated by the Heglatar-Ouard, chluf opponent of the Morrlam re call. Fire Chief Roy Elliott yesterday Is sued a statement to the people of Medford to do their trash burning now. while the graaa Is still green, to forestall the necessity and danger of letting the stuff accumulate until I after the dry season sets In. A large number of the calls ans- werrd by the fire department are j during the stimmer and fall, when careless people start grass fires while burning trash. No permit Is needed, the chief said, to burn trai-h at this time of year. An announcement will be made In this paper when the prac tice becomes unsafe. INCREASE RATES Members of the Medford Cleaning and Dyeing association agreed to In crease charges on all cleaning and dyeing 25 per cent, following a meet ing of the group Saturday. Improvements at the Snider Dairy and Produce company which have been underway for the past five months will be completed by April 15. according to plans. The entire plant has been re-built gradually while the business wsa operated aa usual and the space now occupied by the Snider company Is 7fl by 120 feet. One of the most Interesting and up-to-date additions at Snlder'a la an Ice-cream "Tunnel," the only one In operation In Oregon. It provides simplified and rapid freezing. A Red Diamond bottler hi been Installed In the soda pop department and Snlder'a will now bottle their own lime rlckey, ginger ale and other soft drinks. Ptve new refrigeration rooms. There are very few of these systems In tue In Ore gon outside of Portland. Snider Dairy and Produce company waa organized in 1904 on a. very small scale and It has steadily grown until it now has one of the finest dairy plants In thie part of the state, and Its payroll la one of the largest in Medford. The man contact ed the home of a prominent Medford merchant, whose wife became sus picious, and notified the police and the chamber of commerce. The police were umtble to locate the man. but a wire of Inquiry sent by the chamber to George L. Baker, manager of the Oregon Manufacturers' association elicited this reply: "The Oregon Woolen Mills has no authorized agent selling their pro ducts at cut prices. Portland Better Business bureau has record of Indi vidual who is misrepresenting woolen Industry. If you can furnish us name of importer we will give you complete information to end his racket."
