Fear of possibly endangering the contract for the construction of the bridges on the Coast highway result ed in careful steps being taken to urge upon the federal government the proposal to make a loan of $4. 300.000 on the Columbia W.Vr.r high way at Bonneville. The state legis lature gave the commission author ity to issue general obligation bonds to pay the federal loan on tbe bridges In order to make the spans toll-free. The procedure decided upon was to urge the federal PWA authorities to amend the present bridge loan and grant contract as follows; 1. The state be reuired ro issue general obligation bonds to pay tre principal and interest on the 14.300. - 000 loan. The government hd grant ed a aum of 11.400.000 additional for the bridges. 3.
